Oregon high school diploma does not guarantee that students who earned it can read, write or do math at a high school level.

Governor Kate Brown dropped the requirement that students demonstrate they have achieved those essential skills by signing Senate Bill 744 into law. She declined again Friday to comment on why she supported suspending the proficiency requirements, reported OregonLive.

[... The governor's deputy communications director Charles] Boyle said in an emailed statement that suspending the reading, writing and math proficiency requirements will benefit "Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of colour."

He added: "Leaders from those communities have advocated time and again for equitable graduation standards, along with expanded learning opportunities and support."

Lawmakers did not pass any significant expansion of learning opportunities or support for black, Indigenous and students of colour during the 2021 legislative session.

MSNBC says "Even libertarians aren’t buying the ‘freedom to be unvaccinated’ argument".

Cato Institute adjunct scholar agrees:

Wow, I just watched that clip. I'm kinda surprised that Cato is adopting this tactic of trying to claim the title of what it means to be "libertarian". I've read so many good, well-researched articles and studies from Cato over the years on a wise variety of topics. But it looks like they're getting caught up in the LP drama of who are the real libertarians. I expect this from Reason, but maybe I'm naïve about Cato. I'm a policy guy, so I've never paid much attention to the political drama, but it is so easy to recognize people that do. This Ilya guy is one of those.

Arnold was a disaster piece of sh!t as governor of California. He is just a useful idiot shill.

He is really one of the brightest people in the world - certainly, one of the most disciplined. But he has been uber-rich for a very large portion of his life. The power associated with that lifestyle changes your perspective. You start to develop this arrogance that you should be making decisions for other people - even ones you don't know.

It's kinda sad to me to see what's happened to him. The beginning of his life was like a miracle - the end like a big old train wreck. Come to think of it, that kinda sounds like an Arnold movie.
