Popular Liberty (Daily Paul) Is shutting down.....again

What, exactly, are you arguing here? That he shouldn't be able to do what he wants with the site he owns?

He is in a no-win situation. Selling the user data would not win him any friends either, i suspect.

He should have sold it, instead of destroying the site.

Yup

I think he basically destroyed it out of spite, because the community was moving in a direction he didn't like (i.e. towards Rand).

He's essentially an anti-politics, perma-contrarian, lifestyle libertarian type.

...of which there were many in the Ron Paul movement, who've subsequently abandoned Rand.

Did he say why?

I don't know about Zak's case, but over the years (prior to DP becoming PL) a number of offers were made to buy/take-over the site by long time members that Nystrom ostensibly respected. These were always rejected, with little or no explanation ("it's time to move on..."). It became pretty clear that the issue wasn't just that he wanted out personally, but that he didn't want the site to exist, period.

I can't agree with you more! I actually tried to buy it from him and plug it into a forum that we're launching at truthinmedia.com, and he turned me down - his loss!

Wasn't it you who was paid to pimp those horrid fliers?

He seemed pretty clear to me. He didn't like what it had become and wanted to end it. To sell it to someone would continue what he was wanting to stop.

Yes, I agree, as I said in my first post:

I always got the feeling that he was a bleeding heart lefty type personally.

Honestly, it's probably about time. I stopped visiting a year ago after getting sick of the overly poetic, introspective "coming to an end" posts by Nystrom. Also got tired of the routine fundraisers claiming the site was going to go down or else. Not sure what the deal was there.

It's a shame he didn't sell the website 2 years ago, as he clearly stopped caring then. I can tell you that the website was not properly monetized and someone would have seen that and happily purchased it. Seems like he's had a fair amount of offers over the years anyway. I always got the vibe that rather than a side project or a hobby, he wanted that to be his full time job but it didn't make the money he wanted.

Oh well. Hopefully the content remains online at least.

You're still pimping Benton and the 500 grand he made off us. Still waiting for you to post evidence of those campaign expense reimbursements that you claim exist.

And for the record I also...

1. I got kicked out of the Army for the way I chose to support Ron Paul in 2007/2008
2. Worked as Robin "Mr. Blue Republican" Koerner's promoter in 2011
3. Had an absolute disaster of a "Rock the r3volution Tour" in 2011 as well
4. Helped organize the "Ron Paul is the Choice of the Troops" march on the White House in 2012
5. Got hired (and fired!) by PaulFest (I smelled a disaster coming ala that tour I had and tried to warn them, they didn't like hearing it)
6. Co-produced a "3rd party" presidential debate that Larry King moderated while working as Free & Equals communications director in the Fall of 2012, Jimmy Kimmel made fun of us!:)
7. Had another disaster in early 2013 working as business development manager for the failed "JAGTV" libertarian television network that a SVP of the Dole Fruit Company was trying to launch
8. Help launch this - http://truthinmedia.com/about/ - the biggest success yet, and one that looks like it's going to be around for a very long time!!

I liberty full time forever! :)
