Pope Francis should cast out Netanyahu’s demons, Nicaragua president says

Ortega also called on the international community to impose sanctions on Israel for the military action in Gaza.

"Prime Minister Netanyahu appears to be possessed by the devil, he needs Pope Francis to exorcise it, to become appeased,” Ortega was quoted by Globovision as saying.

"Why doesn't anyone condemn or sanction the state of Israel?" wondered the president of Nicaragua. In his opinion, Palestine is the victim of "madness" on the part of the Israeli leader, who seeks to “annihilate the Palestinian people.”

For Ortega, Israel is “committing genocide” in the Gaza Strip, a crime so “terrible that it is only comparable to the crimes of the Nazis."

Personal attacks against Netanyahu have grown since the start of the IDF operation against Gazans on July 8.

On Thursday, the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan stated in one of the strongest-worded attacks on the Israeli state, that in its military campaign in Gaza and genocide against Palestinians, Israel is demonstrating a “Hitler-like fascism.”

A day earlier, Bolivia declared Israel to be a “terrorist state” and renounced a visa exemption agreement with the country in protest over the ongoing Israeli military offense in Gaza.

Other Latin American countries including Chile and El Salvador recalled their ambassadors in Israel on Tuesday for consultations due to the increased violence in the Gaza Strip against civilians. The move follows similar actions by Ecuador, Brazil and Peru who have also recalled their ambassadors.

There is a much larger geo-political debate here than your personal opinion on Catholics or the Pope.

I think there is a great question asked here whereas we have so many politicians and leaders jumping to sanction Russia over what is happening with regard to all of the civilian casualties in Ukraine at the hand of the coup installed government over there but not a peep with regard to what Israel is doing. And there are much broader elements at play with respect to the growing list of these particular nations who are speaking up about it.

People don't always laugh at the notion of peace through religion because it's not their own. This includes world leaders. Which seems to be the idea behind the president of Nicaragua saying that particular thing. Religious practice varies, of course.

The more relevant aspects were discussed outside of religious belief, though.

We all know that the murders in Gaza are wrong. But the idea that Netanyathu has a demon is somewhat ridiculous. I mean, we don't accuse every single American politician of having a demon, and most of them are worse than the Israeli PM.
