Poll shows Sheriff Joe Arpaio Leads GOP in Senate race in Arizona

The poll by the Summit Consulting Group found Arpaio led other possible Republicans candidates for the Senate seat.

The poll reported 21 percent of likely GOP voters would choose Arpaio; 17 percent would vote for Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.); 16.6 percent favored former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.), who challenged Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the 2010 GOP Senate primary; 12 percent would vote for Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.) and 6 percent would choose freshman Rep. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.).

I'm missing something. I know ancaps are against immigration laws, but why do you consider him a "fascist"? He is only enforcing the laws that already exist. I don't agree with breaking up families, but it seems that his drastic measures are working. Crime is down and illegal immigration is down in his jurisdiction. Let's face it, Arizona has a mess, and since most people are for states rights, isn't Arpaio working within the states rights agenda?

^this. You can be tough on crime and still be a liberty loving Constitutional conservative. I don't agree 100% with Sheriff Joe, but I like his innovative approaches. It seems to be working.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio spoke out against a new push to legalize medical marijuana in Arizona, while speaking to graduates of a drug rehabilitation program, on Tuesday.

For the past 50 years in law enforcement, the sheriff has focused on crimes involving illegal drugs.

Arpaio said, "I have spent the better part of my life fighting drug-related crime. It pains me to see this recent movement where activists are trying to pass legislation to legalize drugs because they feel it is easier than enforcing the laws."

Arpaio on Wednesday announced the formation of a special unit targeting people who violate the state laws, claiming he “wanted to be prepared for criminals who believe that Proposition 203 will allow them to deal marijuana with impunity,”

Sheriff Arpaio’s Special Enforcement Unit will work in partnership with former Drug Enforcement Administration Assistant Agent in Charge Doug Hebert — who vociferously spoke out against the medical marijuana law before it was passed last fall.

He's been my sheriff for who knows how long....he's a typical neocon and would make an absolutely horrible senator. As for him being sheriff, I don't have a whole lot of dirt on him but he's power hungry and basically wastes a ton of money. I'm not sure if he's horrible as a sheriff though.

Arpaio would lead in any poll for any race in Arizona. Same for Jan Brewer.

I think if Arpaio didn't run for Governor, he won't run for Senate.

RPF needs to understand that 1, possibly 2 GOP House seats will open up as a result of this Senate race...
