I'd like to know how many current Ron Paul supporters where supporting him in 2007/2008, and how many discovered Ron Paul AFTER the 2008 election? See poll above. I'm only asking to gauge how much the campaign has attracted new supporters this election cycle. I supported him in 2007/2008.

i liked him and talked about him in 2008. i ended up voting in the democratic primary and voting 3rd party for president. late this summer i started looking at him again. i can totally put my support behind him and do not see anyone else come close to earning my support.

I was a Romney supporter, but switched to Paul after Alabama's primary. In the general, I voted for Baldwin.

I voted for Obama in 2008. Though to be fair, I was an uneducated 18 year old voted. I just turned 21, and since 2008 I think I've learned a lot, and have gotten really into politics. I discovered Paul about a month ago, been a supporter ever since.

~20,770 members joined before 2009. ~11,160 joined between 2010 and now.

I checked 210 "new" members, one page's worth of members for every few months. Going by that, ~15.7% of post-08 members are still active ("active" meaning they've logged in within the past few months). I checked 270 "old" members, one page's worth of members for every few months. Going by that, ~14.4% of pre-08 members are still active.

So, using those numbers, there are approximately 1,752 active "new" members, 2,991 active "old" members, for a total of 4,743 total active members. Or, 36.9% new, 63.1% old.

Edit: But, with that in mind, less than 10% of RPFs visitors are members, and active RPF members make up something like a .05-.4% of all Ron Paul primary voters.

I voted for RP in 08, but this time I'm getting involved in spreading the word too.

New. I "unplugged" within a year after voting McCain in '08. I've come a long way since then.

Awesome hearing about new members. Post your stories about how you discovered him and if you could ever consider voting for any of the other candidates (while also voting the poll to avoid ruining OP's thread).

+rep for anyone who does the above.

My first exposure to Ron Paul was when I watched "America: Freedom to Fascism". Then I heard him discussed on a radio show, shortly before he formed the PEC in '07. Before that I was considering Obama. But the first time I heard Obama lie (in January '07 in a campaign speech) my interest evaporated. Plus I could tell he was just the wrong guy, but until that point he seemed at least worthy of a second look. That is, until I learned more about Ron Paul, and from that point on, I've been a "no one but Paul" person.

07.

I've met a lot of new supporters locally though... not as many dedicated/active volunteers, but definitely a lot of new supporters.

I was completely apathetic to politics up to a year ago. I actually used to even "hate" politics. My brother Had been a libertarian for a while and always tried getting me involved. I have always had an open mind and when I finally started watching some of his youtube videos I was instantly hooked. I have gotten many of my friends and family on board. What made me fall in love with Paul was the message of freedom and how I was loosing it quickly. I still can't believe I would ever be interested in economics, politics, etc..

I've been racking my brain trying to remember...I think I finally did. I just searched gmail for "ron paul" and the oldest message I found was from Campaign for Liberty dated 1/2/10. I'm thinking Obamacare was the final nail in the coffin for me. It was passed on December 24th 2009. I was also a big supporter of HR 1207, which Paul introduced Feb 26, 2009, following its progress via ronpaul.com and C4L.

So, I'd say that it was because of the Federal Reserve and their terrible policies, Obama and his terrible policies, and C4L and their awesomeness is how I discovered Ron Paul. And no, I would never consider voting for anyone else.

I'm an old timer. Don't post a whole lot, but visit rpf almost daily.

I heard about Paul online after that first debate in 2007. Signed up for this forum quick like in the first month of the forums operation. I went from a bleeding heart Gore voting liberal to a libertarian in something like a month. I skipped the GOP stage.

The first political book I read was in mid 2007 by Greg Palast. I recommend both of his books. He is coming out with a new book in the next week or so I'm determined to buy.
