Some folks are trying to help identify these undercover police. Cop Block / Free Keene folks were previously success at identify and undercover area police officer. In fact, he even switched police forces after that. Some might call that a partial victory.

Eh, I don't know if I like outing undercover cops, but I would like to know who the guys on the roof are and why they were there. Snipers on a roof at a Halloween festival in NH bothers me quite a bit.

That's your opinion not mine. I don't like snipers on rooftops and am fine with legalizing drugs. But I do think there is a need for police and even undercover police sometimes.

The same as everywhere else. They do drug and alcohol stings (Keene is a college town). Other types of stings. And apparently, look for people to kill from the rooftops.
While I don't beleive that undercover police (be they from DC, Boston, the state police, the county police or locals) should operate in small communities like Keene, I've never tried to out undercover police, although they have annoyed me by parking in handicap parking spots before... I was just pointing out what people in Keene have done in the past and are trying to do now.
These guys weren't "undercover." Undercover police pretend to be civilians to entrap them doing something that they wouldn't do in the presence of police.
If they were undercover, then they were pretending to be just "normal people" on rooftops with high powered rifles scouting the crowd with binoculars.
Seems legit.

Besides drugs, I can see very few reasons for undercover cops in small towns in places like NH. End the drug war and undercover work will be such a rarity outside big cities it won't even merit us discussing it. That doesn't mean it should be banned altogether, there can still be instances where it could be useful. Like real (not fbi made up) terrorism some types of fraud etc.
Before you all start flaming and neg repping me, remember I'm not an anarchist and not an absolutist. We are on the same side of this issue and probably agree 80-90%. I don't want rooftop snipers and don't want undercover drug busts, just reasonable law enforcement.

In a system where a sheriff and his deputies were accountable to the people there would be no one able to work "undercover" because everybodies face, address and children would be known.
Imagine that, accountability to those who pay you.
