well i got a hand gun to learn with, its a high point 9mm i know its not the most expensive and it doesnt look as good as other guns. But it is made in the USA and from what ive read its very reliable. paid 140$ and went and applied for my concealed permit yesterday. should get it within a month

In the mean time get a decent holster and go to the range and practice drawing and firing safely. If you are going to CCW you definitely need to take some defensive/combat handgun courses. You will out-grow the HighPoint quickly.

Very cool!!! I am jealous. But I don't see much point in having one because I am pretty sure by the time I needed it the government would already have demanded that I surrender it.

Sigh. I wish my family had a long line of gun aficionado-ship so I could inherit some "under the radar" but they don't.

That's great news! 9mm was a good choice. You're now taking your responsibility as an American seriously :D

I concur with the suggestion that you take a course. That will help you a lot

 <sigh> libertarians...

"I would do something that would be a good choice for myself and my country, but, but, but it would probably not work out anyway so I'll post online about how much it sucks."

If you're afraid that the government is going to take away Americans' guns soon, that's all the more reason to buy one now! Depending on your state, if you buy from a private seller, you don't need a background check so there'll be no record of your sale. That's how it is in New Hampshire anyway...I don't know what totalitarian state you're living in ;)

(Oh, and if you think the government is about to seize Americans' guns, you'll want to be somewhere where you're surrounded by a good liberty-loving support structure. Check out the Free State Project...though I'm sure you have 100 reasons why you can't do that either).

.

Illinois - it is a miracle they're allowed to still sell them here at all.

Oh geez...no wonder you're depressed. You've got to escape from that hell hole man! Move with us to New Hampshire...you'll get to see what it lives like to live semi-free for the first time in your life

Good decision. A 9mm is a good first handgun, if you jumped straight to the .45 there might be some issues. Plus 9mm ammo is pretty cheap, you can go to the range often.

Remember this -- in the gun world there is a lot of BS about whose is bigger whose is better. The fact is that 9mm round goes just as fast out your barrel as a high dollar Glock, S&W, Berretta, etc. In fact for the difference in price that others paid for their show pieces, you can shoot an additional 3000 rounds or attend a good firearms school - for free... If you want to look at it that way.:)

Note: Hi-Point firearms are dependable, safe, and well worth buying. You did good!

WARNING : Here comes a Thread HI-JACK:

And for your next purchase -- get a Ruger 10/22 rifle (22 rimfire) and attend a Revolutionary War Veterans Association Appleseed Shoot. The RWVA has officially adopted the Ruger 10/22 as their "Liberty Training Rifle".(http://www.rwva.org

An Appleseed shoot will take from the novice to the educated novice level... and with a little practice you'll be in the top 10% of shooters in the country in no time. That is, if you follow their advice. The course is on a weekend, 9-5 sat and sun, and it covers all the basics of un-aided accurate rifle shooting out to 500 yards. Positons, MOA, inches, minutes, clicks, etc... No bench rest shooting, no bi-pods, and no sands bags. YOU, the ground, and your sling are what steadies the rifle.

Here is a fact sheet designed to get you ready for an Appleseed, http://www.rwva.info/rwva%20pages/AppleseedPrimer5.pdf.

You can find lots of goodies on my web site(its not finished but viewable). Its designed to prepare the first time Appleseed attendee for the firehose of information that they will receive. A little preparation will go along way in getting the most from your $70 entry fee and time. http://www.appleseedmadeeasy.com - and make sure to watch the Army training video -- Its really Good!

NOTE: the RWVA is a non-profit organization. The $70 is for getting the instructors to the range, feeding them, and motel. INSTRUCTORS are ALL volunteer! And VERY GOOD! The RWVA is a nationwide organization with shoots going on all over the country. Attend one, and you will be very glad that you did.

Here is the schedule: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_schedule.htm

hipoints are by no means good carry weapons. To heavy and thick, and tend to jam up.

oh jesus h. criminy save us.

you think a .45 has more "knock down power," don't you?!?!?!?!

while you're at it, have the freaking hamburgler drop off my lunch.

you hurt my head. ever heard of physics??? ever taken firearms training???

dear god don't jump from a round measuring .35 inches (9mm) to a round that measures .45 inches (.45 cal) ... and is actually slower(9mm avg 1200 fps, .45 850 fps)... you might die from reality lag.

but, you should listen to TV and Cartoons. they are good sources of info to live your life by.

good luck...

i am so sorry to hear all of this, it makes me very very sad. we should all quit now, it's over....

looks like he said good decision on choosing a 9mm, where did you get all the crap your ranting about from?

The fact that he chose a 9mm is good, he can practice more, and its easier to shoot. I don't see anywhere in his post where he compares a 9mm to a 45 at all.

p.s. here is a good list of sd ammo you should purchase.

Here in Vermont you don't even need to apply to a concealed carry permit. There is virtually no crime. Only thing is you just have to be 18 or older. To bad we fell big time for McCain. =( Both my older parents and my older bro voted for Paul though.
