I occasionally do petition work. Usually non partisan for some local issues. However I received this info recently from ProVote America (site is provoteamerica.com) This is beginning first in the State of CA. Im in florida, so not actively involved yet. If you believe this is a good thing and your needing work or low on funds you could be involved as a paid petition circulator. If you dont need any $, i'm sure you could volunteer your time.
If Ron Paul does NOT run as a republican or Does Not get the republican nomination, this might help him run as an independant; or someone else from a third party run.
It appears the group that is funding this "campaign or petition" is a group called "America Elect" which appears to be funded by the "Tuft University". I always investigate who & what is behind any paid political work i've been involved in. Obviously some gigs ive accepted, some i've turned down. So what do you all think about this gig???
"When a candidate wants to run for office, or an organization wants to run candidates, they have to get nomination signatures. Americans Elect is non-partisan, so they have to collect a lot more signatures than normal. Simply the petition is "to nominate Americans Elect, a grassroots organization, so they can run candidates next year." Nominations are typically the easiest type of petition to signatures on, because there's so little controversy involved with letting more people to run for office. More choice is better.
Unlike an initiative or referendum petition, there is no agenda with a nomination, so there is no summary to speak of and no information other than the organization or candidate's name is allowed by law on the petition.
If the occasional person asks what the platform is or what the group stands for, this is the cool part. Americans Elect is going to hold an open vote from the public to choose the platform American Idol-style, except that it will be restricted to one vote per registered voter."
