An online petition sponsored by the Facebook group "I refuse to support Ron Paul" calls on the Texas Congressman to end his bid for the GOP Presidential nomination and exit the party.
The petition takes aim not only at the Texas Republican, but also his more militant, cult-like followers.
"We have had enough of the stupid demands of the those who support Ron Paul for President. The time has come for true Conservatives to Rise Up and Take a Stand!" the petition reads in part.
Recently, a petition put up by Ron Paul supporters demanded the GOP name Paul the party nominee. Failure to obey, they said in their ultimatum, would result in Paul supporters not voting for any Republican on the ballot.
The petition continues:
It is our Duty to Defend the Integrity of the GOP!
We Therefore DEMAND that Ron Paul END his Presidential Campaign at once, and Exit the GOP along with his radical cult followers/supporters!
Ron Paul is NOT to launch any type of third party campaign, or launch a write-in campaign, or take any other action that would endanger American voters from engaging in a free political process, and Conservative Republicans form electing a Solid Conservative Republican as Party Nominee, and eventually as President!
Any attempts to throw our free election in favor of Ron Paul or Obama will NOT be tolerated!
As of this writing, the petition has received 66 signatures toward its goal of 10,000.
"It is a shameful and totally unAmerican act for you to try to blackmail the Republican Party into accepting your radical views or you will not support their candidate. Tou did this in 2008 and because of it we were saddled with Obama. Now you say Obama is terrible but you are willing to be responsible for re-electing him if you don't get your way. If Obama does get re-elected then you will be held to blame," wrote "Mr. Bob Sparks."
After losing the 2008 primary, Paul refused to endorse Sen. John McCain, the GOP nominee, instead endorsing a slate of third party candidates including Cynthia McKinney - the Green Party candidate who let herself be used as a propaganda tool of the now-deceased Libyan dictator Moammar Khaddfi.
One person, whose name is not displayed, called Paul's campaign a "coup against the GOP," while others took aim at his foreign policy positions.
At least one Paul supporter signed the petition, apparently in order to post a comment supportive of Paul.
"RON PAUL IS A DANGER TO THE COUNTRY BECAUSE HE DOESNT WANT TO START WWIII," wrote one person signing as "Mr. Mickey Mouse."
So far, Paul has not won any GOP primary races and currently polls in fourth place in Florida, according to Real Clear Politics.
