The stock market contains everything from companies that are trying to perfect fusion reactors, to companies that mine rock salt. It is not a monolithic entity like a particular commodity...
As Warren buffet said "a good company will be a good company even if the means of exchanging wealth is wampum" or something to that effect...
Risk? Yes, Businesses can and will fail, an inanimate object, be if a gold coin, or a barrel of oil, will always be that inanmate object...
That is undeniable, but so is the fact an inanimate object never paid a dividend, cam up with a world changing idea, etc...
