Well, we did it. About 3 months ago, we sold our massive Austin home and moved out to a little place about 50 miles from our old location. From the "Equity" in the over-priced Austin house, we paid off ALL our debts, except for the piddly little mortgage on our current house, which is the same size as the old one, for 1/3rd the price.

Smartest move I ever made, thus far. i could meet all our expenses scrounging scrap metal and such, if push came to shove; it's a real feeling of security knowing you aren't in over your head and in real danger of losing it all if you lose your job.

Now, having gotten the first few tentacles of the system off of me, I'm working on getting myself and the rest of my family fully liberated.\

Any thoughts?

I love Austin :).

So you sold your massive house in Austin for a massive house 50miles from Austin? Sounds like a good deal to me!

I lived in Schertz, Texas for 3 years. good town :).

welcome to the forums!

Congrats! I wish I had the resources to get a home outside the city, but I think I'm going to have to stick it out where I am. Hopefully the U.S. is will experience mass poverty instead of mass death in the next decade.

A friend of mine finally snapped and is selling everything and moving to Florida, of all God-forsaken places. Selling his house, lake cabin, and all his toys. Going to rent a house in a sealed community, or whatever they call the rich parts of town in Fort Lauderdale. Wife currently drives 60 miles to work one way and is glad to end that rat race.

I keep thinking of doing the same thing. We'll see what the economy does. Buy a little shack in the woods and do as little as possible to support myself. Let the fascist system run its course without my involvement.

Awesome move, see what you can do about getting off the water, electric and sewer grids, if you haven't already.

I've done it twice now, the first time going from a roomy condo to a 31-ft sailboat. Next move was to a 28-ft fifth-wheel. The sailboat proved I didn't need all that stuff, and made getting in retirement shape financially a much easier job. Then I got to shrug instead of working the next 15 years. We're now traveling the country and having a ball.

Downsizing gets two big thumbs up from me. Highly recommended.
