Perfect way to end the day...

This will grind Phill's gears, but you can't get more southern than a bourbon mint julep.

Main alcohol: Bourbon whiskey

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon Powdered sugar, 2 oz. Bourbon whiskey, 2 teaspoons Water, 4 Mint leaves

Preparation: In a highball glass gently muddle the mint, sugar and water. Fill the glass with cracked ice, add Bourbon and stir well until the glass is well frosted. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Served: On the rocks; poured over ice

Standard garnish: Mint sprig

Drinkware: Highball glass

Actually, on Derby day not so much gear grinding. So I'm not quite the purist, I suppose. A mint Julip is made for a sweltering Southern summer day. As is a Mojita. Damnit, guess I'm not a purist at all. :o

The Old Fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters then adding alcohol, such as whiskey or brandy, and a twist of citrus rind.

Main alcohol: Whiskey

Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz Bourbon or Rye whiskey, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, 1 Sugar cube, Few dashes plain water

Preparation: Place sugar cube in old fashioned glass and saturate with bitters, add a dash of plain water. Muddle until dissolved. Fill the glass with ice cubes and add whiskey. Garnish with orange slice, and a cocktail cherry.

Served: On the rocks; poured over ice

Standard garnish: Orange slice, Cocktail cherry

Drinkware: Old Fashioned glass

Most excellent thought. I'm gonna grab some limes tomorrow! Unfortunately I'm not gonna be able to cover you tonight. The ole lady decided for an early crash, not complainin' just sayin', so I had to end my Southern Rock Saturday @ volume 11 in memory of Bob Burns. Rock In Paradise, Bob.

And mint. Have no mint.
 
You folks make some really pretty drinks. I like the colors.

I have some blackberry tea at the moment. It's really good.
