Penn Jillette: I should be in New Hampshire, joining the Free State Project

The NH FS Project sounds great and I’m tempted to buy property there. I went to their site and it’s big. http://www.freestateproject.org/ It even has an active discussion forum.

I’m wondering about a headcount of FSers currently relocating to NH. Besides the current FS-member population, app how many are moving in each month/year? Does anyone know where those stats might be? IOW I might jump in the water if I knew a whole bunch of others were.

I'd say about 100 new participants sign up per month, and about 20 move. 9300+ are signed up so far, and 720 have already officially moved. But then, a lot of people move and never sign up at all.

Here's the famous (but somewhat outdated) 101 reasons to move

If you can take trips on short notice, check out the freedom festival next weekend.

In the winter, there's the NH liberty forum. Here was last year's lineup:

Check out the NH liberty alliance, if you're into political activism. A lot o fthese guys practically live in the state house: http://www.nhliberty.org/ I help review bills for them from time to time.

And, for a more outside the system, civil disobedience, voluntaryist oriented approach: www.freekeene.com

The minute I can find steady work in music or journalism, I'll be on my way. North Carolina is a hotbed of statism and I cannot WAIT to flee from it!

I'm trying to think of excuses that the Founders' would have accepted and nothing comes to mind. Unless ya have a medical condition, the cold excuse is baseless. As far as needing skyscrapers, Boston is only a 45 min commute from S. NH. Manchester is often called Manchattan as it has a thriving nightlife and the buildings are fairly tall as well.

Boston is like 34 miles from Salem. If someone started driving from the Salem line at 2am, they may be able to get to Boston in less than 30 minutes :) In 45 minutes you can make it from Manchester to the Boston airport (as long as it isn't rush hour). Of course, that's not the type of thing I would do. Manchester has a great airport which is much easier to get around in.

It's cool the Penn endorsed the FSP.

I'm still wondering why NH was chosen over a western state like Montana or Nevada?

I don't have the stamina to explain that to you right now, bro. Tomorrow my friend, if ya can't figure that out for yourself til then by researching.

The state debate and vote is archived on our website. I'd recommend checking it out. I think NH and the West both have plusses and minuses. Plusses for NH include the fact that activists can meet up easily since the state is drivable and the job market is much more diverse in NH, which allows for a larger number of movers.

Then there's this:

You should check out Free State Wyoming if you're interested in a Western FSP. The founder of FSW (Ken Royce aka "Boston T. Party") wrote a book called Molon Labe that's pretty good.

We have quite a few Westerners moving FROM the West to New Hampshire. Example: YouTube - Leaving MONTANA for freedom in New Hampshire?

I know him. He's a buster and a worker. But, he knows the fields.

That would be great if he decided to move to Keene. Glad to see he supports the FSP.
