Paying for Security/Police at Rally???

I have a question that I hope can be easily answered...

It was my understanding that there is no charge for security at these events?
Please clarify why your rally must pay for security, while the previous Freedom
rally in DC did not have to pay for security (at least that is what I read on the
Daily Paul). Just curious as to why one has to pay and the other didn't. Thanks
for your response.

Actually, what we have to pay for is DC police for the march. The Granny rally was just that, a rally. March routes are handled by the Dept. of Homeland Security. Once they are approved, then we have to pay for police to monitor the march.

I think that is stupid.... forcing people to pay when they are assembling peacefully.
Technically if they do not allow us to assemble peacefully isn't that taking away our right? The stupid supreme court which I hate rules that the government has a compelling interest to do what they do. This is why I posted weeks ago with no real good responses yet in the off topic section how we could combat the "super legislature" called the supreme court.
I know this isn't the issue right now, we will still go and pay... but it is still a bad rule.

Thanks Deborah! Would it be more prudent to have a rally then, instead of a
"March"? Perhaps just march around the rally area? If you're concerned about
the expenses of paying for police/security, then perhaps that would be the way
to solve that issue, and save a ton of money!

Just march "illegally". It's our god-given right to assemble; the police are merely there to enforce our right...NOT to take it away, or force us to pay for it.

I don't think Ron Paul will want to be a part of something that wasn't organized within the limits of the law. This is a family event. We don't want to expose our elderly and young to any potential outbreak of violence.

This is a concern. I have a couple thoughts on it though.
First the cost ($51.70 PER HOUR ) seems excessive. That is more that any officer is paid, and more than I could hope to charge as a Professional Body man.( limited to $45.00ph).
Secondly, Who would they be working FOR? Are they hired to protect the March or the establishment?
My concern about violence is from the police or agents of them.
It would seem that we are paying (at extorted cost) our own antagonists.

suuuuure...in an ideal, fair, and just world the poe-poe's are there to enforce OUR right....

I agree wholeheartedly, and if we want to change this, as a people, we should rise up against this extortion (legislatively). But, changing this will take time and we don't have it for this march.
