So, since Pawlenty has announced he's not running for a third term as Governor, are there any liberty Republicans who will step forward to run in the primary?

Are there even any liberty types that have enough name recognition to be a serious candidate?

We' love to see Tom Emmer run. He'd be the closest to us with a good chance of winning. But he's going to have to get on top of it pretty quickly.

Laura wouldn't be bad, but I still remember going to her website for the first time. The whole front page was awash in pictures and praise of E85. She WAS one of the good legislators who came out for the event with Ron Paul on Sept 3, so I'd have to say I'm generally positive toward her.

Seems to me we had a pretty good candidate challenge Pawlenty in the '06 primary. Is she up for a shot at the open position? Tom Emmer would be good also.

I don't understand the fascination with Tom Emmer. He has the same voting record as Marty Seifert the minority leader. The one exception, Emmer supports Real ID. That is a deal breaker for me.

Seifert called me tonight and made several good points. 1) Brod voted for the socialist stadium -- aack! 2) Seifert voted against mandatory seatbelts, 3) Seifert sponsored the Sovereignty bill, 4) had some explanation about Med Marijuana -- you be the judge -- 5) supported the Real ID repeal -- I don't know where he voted on it last year.

I told him I'd keep an open mind. Happy to hear all your thoughts too.

Emmer is running for House Minority Leader, not Guv. Don't know what Michele Bachmann is doing yet, but I love her for going to bat against the Fed. Kohls is on my naughty list for getting in bed with TPTB with Sutton.

Who else do you like, whether they're running or now?

Not an exception, since Seifert also voted against the Real ID prohibition:

What has elevated Emmer's perceived liberty status this year (remember the RealID votes are now over a year behind us, and it will be interesting to see where Tom weighs in on the question today, if asked) are three pieces of legislation in particular:
MN hf1305, hf0287 & hf2376.

But I do think Tom should be queried again as to the RealID thing, and made aware, if he's not already, as to the inclusion of the rfid chip along with all of the adt'l cost of that proposed card. Believe it or not, my state senator seemed surprised to learn about the chip when we discussed it briefly.

Marianne, I met Phil Herwig at the 7th cd he is real receptive about liberty. and he has a picture of Ronald Reagan on his brochure what do think?

Herwig is trying to meet with as many BPOU's as he can. Send him an e-mail and set something up if you can. Then give us a report.:)
I was a little reluctant to set something up in my BPOU before Pawlenty announced his intentions--didn't want to alienate the party regulars ya'know.

I like Pat Anderson. I like Marty Seifert also. Emmer frightens me sometimes. Who can win a statewide race?

Emmer frightening? Like when he wants the state to be able to castrate people?

Or his very convuluted logic that he wants to ban gambling because it is bad, but really he wants to negotiate a better deal with the tribal casinos?

"I do not like the negative impact gambling has on our communities and families. Those who support any and all gambling will insist that our communities benefit greatly from tribally owned casinos. That is not true. In fact, studies indicate that gambling causes increased crime, addiction, bankruptcy filings, divorces and numerous related negative side-effects. Did you know that for every $46 in gambling revenue in Minnesota, it is estimated that we lose $289 in social costs and economic opportunity? "

"Did you know that if gambling is made illegal in Minnesota, the tribes cannot legally operate their casinos? That's right; if we prohibit all gambling, then the tribal casinos would automatically have to close as well. At least at that point we would be in a position to negotiate a better deal than the awful deal we have now. "

in the same crazy letter, he says tax dollars which allow the govt to mess with the environment is great.

"Every dollar generated from gambling that goes to support our environmental resources, including hunting and fishing, in the State of Minnesota is important. "
