PAUL / JOHNSON 2012

Nonsense. Reagan was the conservative choice and he talked a good game. Ron trusted him. Ron DIDN'T endorse Ford after Reagan lost in 1976, because Reagan was his guy -- he mentioned that on Cavuto last week.

So you think Rand should have just come in and filibustered every bill and started endorsing third party candidates left and right?

[Ron Paul] is not going to sacrifice his sons political aspirations.
Rand Paul's position in the establishment GOP is holding the liberty movement hostage.
the well being of the liberty movement is being sacrificed to protect Rand's reputation in the establishment GOP.

None of this has anything to do with why Ron Paul won't run 3rd-party/independent.

Rand Paul is a big boy. He's established himself well enough that he doesn't need his daddy's protection (if he ever did - which I doubt).

What's wrong with the idea that Ron won't pursue things any further because he simply doesn't *want* to?

Maybe he just wants to go home for a while. The Revolution has got to learn to walk on its own legs, and sooner rather than later.

But if Ron *does* have a political motive for not running any further, I don't think it has anything at all to do with Rand. If he's trying to "protect" anybody, it's the people who are trying to "insurge" the GOP from the bottom up: the Ron Paul Republicans who have taken over (or are trying to take over) the GOP state parties, people in Minnesota, Iowa and elsewhere. People like Ashley Ryan.

Such as endorsing Romney?

Ron Paul endorsed Lamar Smith.

Are you going to excommunicate Ron Paul from the liberty movement and denounce him as a Pied Piper for the establishment?

No? Then you are doing nothing but (hypocritically) rubbing other people's faces in your own self-righteous "purity."

It may make you feel good, but it accomplishes nothing else.

Not while his son was still getting delegates against him.

Ron endorsed people as better than the other guy, and had a different list he endorsed from as liberty candidates. If Rand supported the nominee or even endorsed (which I'd like less) after RNC that would be one thing. Amash doesn't even plan to endorse, just 'support' and didn't do it until after RNC.. Doing it before is to get benefits for his career path. And that is one choice, and not doing it at that time would have been a different choice. In my mind there is no doubt it hurt the number of states Ron had going into RNC, and giving Romney a Paul to speak on a screened basis let him pretend he was accommodating us whereas he'd have had to deal more directly with Ron otherwise imho. My feeling is the benefits to Rand were always going to be at the cost of Ron's leverage against Romney, and at the cost of momentum to Ron's campaign, which was always about more than just winning the nomination.

I don't see the point in fighting it over, it happened, and people do have opinions about it.
