PATRIOT Act on life support after Rand Paul stymies renewal efforts

Rand Paul needs to add that "has even been ruled illegal!".

It is being spun that he is a lone voice declaring it is illegal, he's an outsider, and that isis etc is valid. etc.

The frame needs to be changed to the correct one, that this is America, that warrentless wiretapping is *not even
open to debate*, and that those supporting it are not even (implicitly said) true patriotic Americans, but
that it is illegal.

edit: the public, being what it is, hasn't even considered it being illegal, being ruled illegal,
that the government can even break the law.

Do you realize that if Rand Paul is successful in ending the Patriot Act - even if symbolically - then he WILL be President.

Call your Senators. Now.

Can't agree more! Not even half a day later and we're already hearing people on forums, comment sections and friends/family who are all in align with Rand on this issue. Even people who believe "Republican" is an ideological label they avoid like the plague.

This is a tremendous opportunity and I'm going to try and make a nice non-Randish specific copy/pasta for a project promo below to share everywhere I think would be effective getting new (or current) people involved in lobbying their Senators and hopefully it will spill over into actual support for a Rand presidential campaign. It would be great if everyone else could share it too! :toady:

Going to share this link quickly if anyone wants to help filling out the blanks while I finish the rest of the body of text for this post:

While you're remembering Memorial day, and those who died to protect our freedoms against spying and Nazi and Gestapo tactics,
remember, the battle for your rights wages right now!

Rand said that several times during the filibuster. I think he'll have it in his talking points for media next week.

I'm just replying about his banner. It falls right into media spin. Rand Paul says it is, not it has already been declared to be illegal.

It doesn't matter what Rand Paul says that the media ignores and by and large the public doesn't hear. You have like
2 seconds to shift the public's perception of media spin with a single sound bite, banner, etc - so make sure you know what the spin is, and what would be effective.

Rand is getting positive comments everywhere on this..Politico and HotAir! He winning...this issue could really propel him into the oval office...

People should realize that if these provisions expire, it wouldn't mean that the entire Patriot Act would be gone. There are only three provisions that are going to expire if Congress doesn't reathorize them. There are something like 8 or 9 other provisions that have already been made permanent. People keep referring to this bill as "the Patriot Act" when in reality it's simply one part of it.

So just to be clear, this won't end indefinite detention or secret arrests?
