Palin was a member of a Alaskan party that pushed for Alaska to secede from U.S.

ABC News is reporting that Sarah Palin and her husband were members of the Alaskan Independence Party as recently as 1994 and that she took part in the party's convention THIS YEAR (video below). This is a party that has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of Alaska can secede from the United States and openly tells their members to "infiltrate" the Republican and Democratic parties as a way to push the Alaska secession issue. Their party motto is "Alaska First -- Alaska Always," a direct contrast to McCain's campaign motto of "Country First." Most of the people in the party want Alaska to secede from the United States, though the official line from the party is that they just want Alaskans to be allowed to vote on whether to stay in the U.S. or to secede.

AIP Chairman Lynette Clark says that both Palin and her husband were members in 1994 and that both attended the party's 1994 statewide convention. Clark says that the main goal of the party is to challenge the legality of Alaska's statehood. Clark adds that Palin switched to the Republican party in 1996 when she decided to run for Mayor of Wasilla.

AIP's vice chairman, Dexter Carter, says that AIP members should try to "infiltrate" the major two political parties and then push the issue of Alaskan independence.

Below is a video of Palin addressing the AIP convention earlier THIS YEAR and telling them to "keep up the good work." And at that convention, AIP Vice Chair George Clark said that Palin "was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town" and that she remains "pretty well sympathetic to her former membership."

I think Josh Marshall makes a very good point. Whether these stories really matter in the longterm or not isn't the issue. The issue here is that John McCain, after meeting this woman only once and not even vetting her properly, has put her in position to perhaps be the next Vice President, and by extension, President, of the United States.

Is it normal for a governor to personally address a different party's convention in their state? Did she address the Libertarian or the Green party in Alaska likewise? I'm not suspicious of people switching parties, after all, RP did that too. It's also fine with me if she wants Alaska to secede. But I think people should know if she is going to be VP candidate of the US.

walter hickel! i once bought his book! i liked walter hickel!!! [and so did sarah palin?]

Well that made me like her better! It has the democrats foaming at the mouth as it would cut off the complete control the lower fortyeight has over Alaska's land.

I LIKE her for that! The idea originally..was that states had the right to seceed from the UNION if they didn't like where it was heading..then Lincoln squashed that right with his War of NOrthern Aggression! Palin is RIGHT ON in this. The democrats absolutely FEAR states rights/ 10th amendment. Tones

that is awesome that she was part of the pro-secession party...

she has been in a position to be very influential about this, and has NOT gone forward with it at all.

I just keep liking Palin more and more as time goes on.

I just dont get this im sorry. I cannot in good conscience vote McCain in as CIC because his second in command is OK.

Let us not forget once again how McCain treated our candidate, with enormous amounts of disrespect and beligerence.

But his chosen VP is a secessionist and thats OK?

If it were RP he would have laughed in his face.

McCain is trouble....

If I cant Write In RP im going Baldwin.

God Bless the Republic.

Yea, she's real "Alaskan." Which is why she kept federal funds, initially supported bridge to nowhere, and supported federal regulation in health care. What a joke.

You can't say one thing and do another. She's a total hypocrite and people here buy it.

I agree with you. This is the first time. Ironic that you bashed me earlier for critiquing her.

I don't recall, or maybe I was just poking fun, but it just goes to show that if you and I can agree on this it's not hard to see through her veil.
