Kerry was recently in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India and had met the top leaders of the three countries. "The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm Mike Mullen, has called the border region the "site of planning for the next attack" on the United States," he said.

What is very important about this is in this video from a couple months ago:

Skip ahead to 1:50. Remember when Biden warned of an international crisis? Someone followed up on that at a rally and Biden said he was just repeating what the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

I think Pakistan was always the target and Afganistan served as a launch pad. Also, there is a proposed pipeline that runs through Afganistan and to the shore off Pakistan. Anything to bypass the Gulf. - http://www.thedossier.ukonline.co.uk/MAPS & CHARTS/CASPIAN-MIDDLE EAST_OIL & MILITARY PRESENCE.JPG

Another reason I see is we're knocking off China's allies like Brezienski (sp?) supposedly wants to. Susan Rice is real adament about going into Darfur for 'humanitarian' reasons. China gets a good portion of its oil from Sudan.
