We should seek endorsement from country music's owtlaws.

Merle Haggard
Willie Nelson
Waylon Jennings
Johnny Cash

These guys would have a real impact in the south. Maybe have an outlaw reunion concert.

Willie

Willie would be good because of his problems with the IRS and affinity to smoke.

Waylon is deceased but his son Shooter Jennings is carrying on the tradition.

They are all anti-establishment civil libertarians.

They are all friends so if you can convince one you may very well be able to get that one to convince the others.

Art Bell supports Ron Paul and Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson have both been on his program many times.

Willie Nelson has notoriously had tax problems and is an outspoken advocate for marijuana legalization.

All of these guys are popular throughout the south and beyond especially with older voters.

Holy crap. I didn't know Waylon was dead. That sucks.

I was just about to point that out, but someone already did.....

With Willie, er,..well, I'd probably go with a renewable fuels angle!

(Bio-Willie) Relying less on foreign oil, free market entrepeneur forging
the way for energy independence, etc.)
Maybe steer away from the tax evasion/reefer thing. JMHO;)

Something else, NASCAR is big in the south. All over, actually.

Tony Stewart ? Dale Jr.?

Gordon's probably a Rommney groupie.(j/k)

I mentioned South Carolina native Cale Yarborough. He's still remembered by older voters I'm sure. Is anyone listening to our ideas or are we just wasting time posting them in the vacuum that is this forum? I seriously wonder. It sure would be nice for Headquarters to have a way of flagging comments they have read.

Two of the four are dead. Willie Nelson is pickled :) Good thought!

Johnny Cash passed away a few years ago...

what about Charlie Daniels?

Ever since the long-haired country boy became the redneck (long hair or none) who wants "dope dealers" to swing from a tree, I'd say fat chance. One of his other songs, "It Ain't a Rag, It's a Flag (and we don't wear it on our heads) might give you a clue.

I wrote a tribute to him after he wrote "Simple Man" (sung to the tune of Long-Haired Country Boy)

Charlie Daniels, you used to be one o' my heros
but you stuck you finger in the air and found out which way the wind blows
kinda like a chameleon you've become as you've grown old
and you might have alot of money
but you sure ain't got no soul

REFRAIN:
And I ain't asking you for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own
if you don't like the way I'm livin'
you just leave this long-haired country boy alone.

I sing this song as an older man who ain't takin no more drugs
and I as much as anyone else have no sympathy for thugs
But your new-found anti-drug crusade strikes me as hypocrisy
Do you really want your old friends to swing up from a tree?

REPEAT REFRAIN

Charlie Daniels, you're old songs meant alot to me
but why you had to change your tune is something I can't see
you've become that old Greenteeth that you kicked right in knee
and you can keep your neocon politics the devil away from me

REPEAT REFRAIN

Jimmy Buffett gave $4100 to Christopher Dodd
