"Only way Patriot Act to be saved in time is for establishment to cut a deal with Rand"

"To put it bluntly, if Senate leaders and the White House want to get the USA Freedom Act to the president’s desk before the Patriot Act authorities expire at midnight Sunday, there’s only one route under the rules: cut a deal with Paul."

Here are the technical details on the Senate procedure for Sunday:

would be for the chair to simply refuse to recognize him for an objection......or a no show for some strange reason.

That's not necessarily true. Rand wants votes on two amendments that he knows will likely pass. If they cut a deal and his amendments pass, the House would still have to pass the amended bill but they aren't back in session until after the Patriot Act expires.

Here's what I'm afraid will happen: Rand will let them vote on the Freedom Act if they vote on his amendments, his amendments are voted on and fail, Freedom Act passes.

I wish he would just hold out, forget about the amendments, and the whole thing will simply expire, as long as they follow the rules.

If Rand does so, it will expire at most for a few days or weeks, then it'll be the same result.

Expiring for days or weeks could make it much harder for them to reinstate it. Plus, just the fact that one man--Rand Paul--could cause it to expire for a few days or weeks would be a huge victory in itself.

Rand Paul, the man who single handedly ended some NSA programs.

I could live with that.

Don't they need unanimous consent to allow a vote on amendments? I'd be surprised if that happened, you just know someone like Lindsay would object.

That's ok because at that point he would have a roll call vote of who voted for and against it. That helps get politicians unelected next cycle.

What I'm afraid will happen: PATRIOT Act fails, false flag attack later this summer, Rand is blamed (I don't really care about who gets the blame...just the idea that the establishment will never allow Boobus to live without fear now) Boobus will demand to be spied upon again. We will never know freedom again.

If the Patriot Act Expires...

The alternative is they renew this act over and over. And we will never have freedom again. I'll take a few months of freedom over never having it again.

This is a great way to consolidate power and appear (on a mainstream level) like a courageous leader to the nation.

I really hope the expiration will happen and there is a good chance the mainstream media may talk about it on the next days news cycle.
