One, Big Beautiful Bill (The Mega-Bill)

How many people die if they lose a war? The Soviet Union lost 27 million people in World War 2 and they supposedly "won".

Thats equivalent to multiple US states being wiped out entirely.

it's the giant pig out before they depop us.

Indeed.

And the funny thing about tyrants, is they rarely recognize themselves as such.

And what's the status on Social Security and Medicare now? Which I ask only to focus on the subsequent elections (if there are any). How much sooner do they collapse?

Its mandatory spending so it collapses when our giant ass economy cant tax to pay for it anymore.

Our economy just keeps becoming stronger especially because artificial intelligence is lowering the cost of the most expensive thing in our American system which is education.

We pass on our vast civilizational knowledge and institutional knowledge to the next generation at great costs.

People go into debt to pay for advanced education and we go into debt as a country to subsidize the cost of a good education because its an investment into our future.

Rural southwest Nebraska clinic closes, blaming expected Medicaid cuts
A clinic in southwest Nebraska announced Wednesday that it is closing due to financial challenges, including anticipated Medicaid cuts.

McCook-based Community Hospital said it is shutting down its clinic in Curtis, a town of about 900 people.

The Curtis Medical Center has been in operation for more than 30 years.

“Unfortunately, the current financial environment, driven by anticipated federal budget cuts to Medicaid, has made it impossible for us to continue operating all of our services, many of which have faced significant financial challenges for years,” Community Hospital CEO Troy Bruntz said in a statement.

The clinic will wind down its services over the coming months.

The Nebraska Hospital Association has been pushing back against Medicaid cuts in the “One Big Beautiful Bill” being considered in Congress.

Rural hospitals have said they would be most affected and may be forced to cut services or close altogether.

The driving distance between Curtis and McCook is 41 miles (google says it's an hour and four minutes); so depending upon where in Curtis people live, you could probably add up to a half hour on top of that. It sounds like Curtis Medical Center was already facing fiscal challenges (not enough people to warrant a full care facility). It's real value probably came as a nearby triage center to stabilize severe cases enough for transport to the more capable Community Hospital in McCook (something of value in rural America).

All I can say is they got what they voted for - 2024 election results (NE-03 congressional district):
Adrian Smith (GOP) ... 243,481 votes (80.4%
Daniel Ebers (Dem) ... 59,287 votes (18.6%)

And no, I'm not saying that the federal government ought to be subsidizing local medical facilities, but the GOP was touting this as having no impact on those local medical facilities. And now, in one of the reddest congressional districts in the country, it's doing just that.

From best I can tell no differences except small temporary tax credit increase deduction for earners over 75k at retirement age drawing SS for yrs 2025 - 2028. I tink 4k deduction 65 and older and 6k if exceed 75K yr . Also extends trump 2017 tax credit ( standard deduction ) of 1k per person and 2k for married couples until 2028 , was to expire in 2025 I tink. Personally I cant say Im concerned about medicaid cuts because federal tax dollars are not enuff to go around for spending and states need to fund it if want it

Best I can tell no effect on me personally as Ill only be probably turning in about 31K of income in 2025 and 26 from a 3 day a wk part time job , farm income and coin sales at antique mall

Seems most of bill causing increase in debt would come from raising SALT deductions from 10k to 40k for five yrs . I could care less about SNAP cuts as no proper function for fed tax dollars . Id support eliminating entire dept of Ag and SNAP

Best I can tell all tax cuts expire after 2028, 150 billion for defense , 129 billion for borders and all rest ( 4 1/2 trillion, saying over ten but looks all front loaded by 2028) is tax cuts . All savings ( 1.7 trillion over 10 yrs ) is from SNAP , Medicaid , Green Energy cuts , Id support eliminating all of 3 from Fed budget

Not counting defense and border ( actual fed tax items , even if too large) all cuts are deficit 2.8 trillion , so needed 2.8 trillion more in cuts 2025 to 2028. So Big certainly , not beautiful , but certainly biggest tax cut.

Unbelievable!

This horrible bill actually changes the law so that gamblers cannot deduct 100% of LOSSES.

It means if you win $1000 and lose $1000, you OWE tax on $100 you did not even win !!!!!!!!

From the article:

Professional gamblers say this change could push players toward offshore markets that do not follow U.S. tax rules

Though, in the "Land of the Free", you must obtain permission if you want to take $10,000 across the border. Or in my case, get pulled into a room over +/-$2500 stinking bucks.

This doesn't just effect professional gamblers.

This is effectively a gambling tax.

Over 99.999% of the time when someone hits a jackpot they keep gambling and then lose it. So they break even at best.

Now if someone is smart I guess if they hit a jackpot they might just walk away so they don't lose it and still get taxed but this isn't likely.

It is profoundly unjust. Someone buys a lottery ticket, and they win $5000. But they spent $5000 on lottery tickets.
This means they owe $500 in tax, because only 90% is deductible. It is obvious theft.

Imagine if they did this to stock market gains. Your stock goes up 10%, you sell. Then your stock goes down 10%, and you book the loss. Now you have to pay taxes, without any profits. Of course they would never hurt Wall Street this way.

I'm really having a hard time getting in their heads. All it can be is they get paid by their lobbyists and don't care if they are gone next election.
They are only there to take the money and run. It's really astonishing.
