Pretty much everything in this bill they want to actually spend money on is untouchable. Even when they talk about recissions and follow-up bills like Johnson is, that's only after the main bulk of the bill is passed. It's nothing. If they really wanted to cut spending it would be in the bill. Unfortunately, the Medicaid and SNAP cuts are not about fraud or waste, and they won't tackle the cost of drugs or healthcare, because those are controlled by the corporations that donate to them, just like military.

Since the true objective of this bill is to cut taxes for the extremely wealthy, that's not up for discussion, as a matter-of-fact, it's not even being mentioned as negotiable, and since that's not going to be changed, the only way the Republicans can do what I describe above and stay politically viable in 2026 is to NOT cut Medicaid and SNAP so deeply that voters turn against them, and they lose both majorities. I expect these cuts to human services for the poor, which is how the tax cuts for billionaires is proposed to be funded, as political suicide. Most of them could care less, even if they hand the Democrats an automatic head start for the next election.

There will be enough sane Republicans who want to stay in office, so the Medicaid cuts and SNAP cuts will be mostly removed, and the tax cuts for billionaires and corporate welfare in the form of excess commitments to provide the executive Trump with a big splush fund; everything else - it will stay in place. Now, if they somehow don't adjust the Medicaid and SNAP cuts, that's just plain idiotic, because in less than 2 years the next Congress will reverse them anyway. You cannot starve and steal healthcare from millions of Americans and expect them to vote for you again, especially when your majority was thin as Scotch tape vs. the worst Democrat president in living memory and the most unlikeable candidates of all time. A one-off.

There's no good way out of this one. We haven't really had a good way out since the 1990's. Very few are clear thinkers, less are unbeholden, and even less can sell the public on the necessary medicines that would provide even a possibility of reversing the course of this nation. The public would not even understand those solutions. They would be fearful and vote against change. Nobody is going to make this better. All you can do in this country is look out for number one and your family as best you can. The knowledge and spirit of the past is long gone. Even its memory has faded into the obscured visage of a dusty old portrait or landscape painting, which hangs unloved in a museum nobody visits anymore.

I admit that we have a 250 year history of fixing problems caused by our government by fixing our government and making it better.
