On reflection, Rand was brilliant last night

After thinking about it, think what he accomplished. Ya, most of the speech was rah, rah, red vs. blue bs but for a couple of minutes in the middle of that speech he got a crowd of necon apologists applauding a liberty platform and actually mentioned the idea that the Pentagon is not some sacred cow that can't be touched. I always appreciated the fact that his dad goes for the throat on that stuff but to win people over to the liberty platform, they have to be broken in slowly - perhaps even led by the nose gently, to get them where we want them. Rand started that last night.
If you haven't seen the video - check it out between minutes 12 and 14 (approximate). You'll see what I mean. It was genius.

Rand knows, slow and steady wins the race. If he were go come on too strong, he wouldn't have a chance at winning the hearts and minds of those we need to get him elected as President.

It probably wasn't meant for us, which is why it didn't really interest me much. I did enjoy him saying that we needed to cut the defense budget, and enjoyed it even more when the neocons clapped and cheered. I wonder if they were even listening, or just waiting for pauses to clap.

I also liked how in mentioned, and I'm paraphrasing, that we should never give up an ounce of our liberty for the sake of more security. Kind of a jab at the lilkes of the Patriot Act and the NDAA provisions.

Also a jab at the TSA, especially after what happened to his family. And himself, actually.

I really liked how he emphasized that Obamacare is STILL unconstitutional even though the SCOTUS ruled it as such. I think that's something a lot of Americans need to hear and understand.

You mean he's doing what Ron advocated at the end of his speech: quietly discussing our point of view without bashing people over the heads?

LOL

Absolutely!

Rand is so amazing. He does his dad proud. Able to deliver the same principles and policies, but in a way that speaks the rank & file's language of red meat politickin'.

Perfect combination, this guy, and a model in word, deed, and voting record, worth emulating.

Rand Paul rocks.

Also, think of the position he'll be in if Romney wins. Either one of two things could result:

1. Romney actually does some good things (very doubtful) like overturning Obamacare, audit the Fed, balance the budget (which he won't do by pushing for war with Iran), etc.

2. Romney turns out to be just like Bush or Obama (likely) and continues to grow the federal government. In this case, Rand has put himself on the GOP ship where he will be able to call for mutiny. Ron Paul from day one was the lighthouse trying to warn the ship that it's going the wrong way, but was never really on the ship and many didn't take him seriously because of it. He was always seen as "out there". With Rand, they feel that he's in the trenches with them (which he is as long as their talking the talk). But when the walk doesn't match the talk, he's going to be a force to be reckoned with. Of course, I may be naive and he may be as much original tea party as Scott Brown or Marco Rubio is. Time will tell, but I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and not denigrate him unless I have just cause to do so.

Bump

Rand is allowing himself to be used by the mainstream GOP to secure votes for Romney.

Maybe. But is he being the least bit effective? And even if he were effective, would it be enough to put Rmoney in the White House despite all his electoral handicaps?

I say no way in hell.
