Jan 29, 2008 - Senate Debate

Fisa
Sen. Coburn [R-OK]: "Mr. President, at the end of this week, Americans may find themselves at greater risk of a terrorist attack when the Protect America Act expires on February 1. On that date, we will be forced to revert to the antiquated 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, to monitor the communications of suspected terrorists, unless this..." The Third Reason
Sen. Inhofe [R-OK]: "Mr. President, I don't very often do this, but I am going to make a presentation today, and I would like to give it a title, and the title is 'The Third Reason.' The subtitle very likely could be 'The third reason we are winning in Iraq, and we should be in Iraq.' I have to say that I have had occasion to be there many times, and there is..." This guy needs to be voted out when 2010 comes around...

Don't expect either one to be out of the Senate.

I do hope Senator Inhofe goes. He's definitely a career politician and I do not care for him much. Here, a conservative Democrat could appeal to me.

Senator Coburn has lots of good qualities, mostly when it comes to fiscal issues and stinks on a lot of social issues. Beyond the US House and US Senate, he's had literally no other political experience. I doubt any Democrat will be any better. Coburn is pretty popular here. A couple of issues ago, Reason magazine (http://www.reason.com/news/show/120322.html) had a feature on him pretty much praising him for a lot, and slamming him for other stuff. I'll take him over most of the Senate.

Iraq isn't the only issue at stake :-)

Unfortunately, that piece of $#!+ Inhofe manages to remain pretty popular, too, despite crapping all over a town and Supefund site in the northeast corner of the state.

this sounds like Inhofe to me. hopefully they'll be a good democrat or even a third party senator run in 2010. But we coould be worse off w/o him you never really know what psycho's can slip into office.

I agree wholeheartedly with you guys on Inhoffe but had considered letting Coburn slide (even tho I took a little offense at his Indian remarks) since he had an admirable record on 2nd amend stuff, but realize just now that even if a candidate is mostly good, he needs to be voted out as he only has most of a conscience, or is only partially bought and paid for. With few exceptions (but the tide will turn), most career politicians are nothing but freeloaders selling us out left and right. So, unless you have a one-ofa-kind like Dr. Paul, VOTE THE BUMS OUT!!!

Unfortunately, most of us are too nieve, thinking "yeah I know most are crooks but my representative is different, he's a good guy". Truth is, they are almost all scoundrels. I noticed a lot of collective conscience stuff going on lately too, I think of tacks prot3st and march$ on dc et voila - public forums and even a couple of msm headlines on exact same issues within hours or days.

Yup, I was referring to Inhofe, and no, I don't see how we could possibly be worse off without him. He's sufficiently psycho that I'm not at all sure I wouldn't support Charlie Manson against him.
