A shooting Friday night at Choctaw High School's football game against Del City left one student dead and four other people injured.
Below is what we know.
The Victims
Three people were shot and two others suffered injuries while trying to run away from the scene on Friday. One of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, died from his injuries.
Family members identified the victim as Cordae Carter. Mid-Del City Schools Superintendent Rick Cobb confirmed that Carter was a student at Midwest City High School.
Authorities also said a 42-year-old man was shot in the chest and was transported to a hospital. He spent most of Friday night in surgery. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office said he remains in critical condition.
The sheriff's office also said an off-duty Del City police officer responding to the scene shot the 42-year-old.
Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall said a young female was treated and released after being shot in the thigh. Police also said two other girls, believed to be students, were injured while trying to leave the scene.
The Suspect
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office confirmed to KOCO 5 that a suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting Friday night at Choctaw High School's home football game.
Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III said a 15-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting without incident after an arrest warrant was issued Tuesday night. Johnson, however, did not say in what capacity the 15-year-old was involved in the shooting.
Court documents obtained by KOCO 5 identified the suspect as Dayvion Hamilton.
Choctaw Police Department officials said they knew who they were looking for since Saturday morning. As far as Choctaw police know, they are not looking for any other suspects.
Johnson said the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Choctaw and Oklahoma City police departments were involved in the arrest.
What Happened
Around 10:15 p.m. Friday, gunshots rang out from the visitor's sideline late in the third quarter of Choctaw High School's home football game against Del City.
Choctaw Police Department officials said in a news release that investigators believe an argument started between at least two males, leading to the shooting.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the groin area. Police said the teenager later died from his injuries. Although it was initially believed that the 16-year-old was not a student of either school district involved in the game, Mid-Del Schools officials later confirmed that he was a student in their district.
A 42-year-old man also was shot in the chest and underwent surgery. A young female was shot in her thigh, and she was treated and released for her injuries.
Two other females also suffered broken wrists and a broken leg while trying to leave the area, police said in the news release.
An off-duty Del City police officer also discharged his weapon during the situation. On Monday, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office announced that the officer shot the 42-year-old man while responding to the initial shooting.
The officer as well as another working the game have been placed on paid administrative leave.
Officers found two guns and eight rounds at the scene.
Video from Skordle.TV shows the moments the shots were fired, showing players running off the field and sidelines. Some people also were seen lying down on the field, and they were OK and uninjured.
The shooting happened at Choctaw High School's football stadium, Bill Jensen Field at Choctaw Yellowjackets Stadium along Northeast 10th Street near Henney Road.
The Choctaw community gathered over the weekend following the deadly shooting at the high school football game. On Sunday, more than 100 people showed up at the Choctaw Baptist Church, relying on each other for hope and change.
"It’s still real fresh, so I think it’s difficult for some of them to really explain what’s going on in their minds," said Elijah Mire, student pastor at Choctaw Road Baptist Church. "We’re hoping that tonight will give them that outlet. We’ve got licensed counselors here that are ready to step in and talk with our students."
