Cafaro said she is not trying to be “punitive” against parents or guardians wishing to educate their children outside the public school system and said she is “sensitive” to their concerns.

“They deserve to be heard, [but] if you have nothing to hide, you shouldn’t be concerned about this,” Cafaro said.

Nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. They are just going to inspect your home and conduct individual interviews presupposing guilt. One death has allowed them to decide all homeschoolers are guilty.

If there are records of child abuse by anyone in the household or if the interviews elicit negative information, it must be passed on to the local superintendent or educational leader.

No, there does not need to be documented child abuse. Any report, positive or negative, creates a data base entry and according the the bill's wording- that is all that is needed.

I just pulled the bill and you are spot on. There is no option to homeschool once a report of any kind has been made. Thanks to my eldest's theatrics I would no longer be eligible to homeschool if this passes. It doesn't matter what the dispensation was regarding the allegations.

Irony is that the district Cafaro hails from has been notorious for lawsuits filed against the CPS agency. So they get to be the folks who decide who can homeschool when they cannot even control their own employees or manage supervised visits in their own building.

Oh yeah and the stellar schools they will be sent to? Warren City schools are not only failing schools but as recently as a few weeks back had to be shut down because of gun violence that was occurring due to a war between police and a local gang which threatened to expand to the high school. They canceled the homecoming game because of it. Yet they are concerned about the safety of children? Sure...

If this goes through I will be left with no option but to move again. We own our home outright so this really rots. I will never allow the state to mess with my children again. It will happen over my dead body...

ETA-looks like there is a possibility you might be able to homeschool if you comply with whatever classes they deem necessary. So they say jump and you say how high and just maybe you can get your permission slip so they can come in your home twice a year and interview you all. They also have a section on how all approved homeschoolers are to have provided an intervention program consisting of behavioral counseling both group and individual sessions and in person parenting classes. The visits will be twice a year for what appears to be a four year supervisory period. This is a horrible overreach...

She is withdrawing the bill supposedly January 1st to "pursue a more comprehensive course of action,"

Cafaro sent a letter to Ohio Senate President Keith Faber informing him of her decision to withdraw the bill. She said she will make a formal motion on the Senate floor when they return after Jan. 1.

She also sent a letter to Medicaid, Health and Human Services Chair Shannon Jones to request field hearings on the topic of child abuse in the New Year.

Teachers unions hate homeschoolers, considering them a drain on education funding that's divided per pupil. More homeschoolers, less funding. Senator Capri Cafaro, it will be noted, gets 100% rating from the Ohio Federation of Teachers (motto: "protect working families" should read "exploiting working families") only because the scoring doesn’t go past 100%. And her father pled guilty to fraud when he gave an undocumented $10,000 loan to her campaign. Sen. Capri denied any knowledge of the loan.

“The charge against John Cafaro is not his first go-around with federal prosecutors,” reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “In 2002, he was fined $150,000 and placed on probation for bribing former U.S. Rep. Jim Traficant.”

Traficant went to jail for bribes and racketeering.

Senator Capri is also a consultant to the United Nations and—snort-- according to Wikipedia“as a participant in the Clinton Global Initiative, she developed a project on anti-corruption efforts in emerging democracies.”

Ha! Anti-corruption efforts... pfft. It will be noted that the United Nations official policy is to consider home schooling child abuse.

Oh yes: This has union written all over it. In conjunction with United Nations. And supported by the Clinton Global Initiative. And brought to you by progressives everywhere.

Only progressives with ties to unions and a history of bad behavior would presume to set up themselves as lawgivers to all.
