1) How does Vampire Diaries add anything decent to your life? Why do you like it?

This is a pretty good description of the show:

The best thing about The Vampire Diaries is that it knows exactly why its viewers are tuning in: to watch hot young people caught up in a never-ending supernatural mystery soap opera (This is pretty much what Supernatural used to be before it lost its bearings after a slam-bang fifth season ending). TVD takes the basic premise and mainlines it into your vein. No episode is allowed to go out without a cliffhanger, no scene can drift past its dramatic impact without a new revelation/kidnapping/monster being introduced. Screenwriters, take heed: any random episode of TVD (at least in its second season) is probably the meanest, smoothest, most efficient hour of genre television you will ever see. There’s less fat on the show’s frame than on Ian Somerhalder’s overworked torso.

2) How does it help RPS's be a better place?

I'm not sure what RPS is, so I can't answer that.
