How about actually talking hockey. But first lets establish the facts:

Western Conference is much more competitive than the East.
Canucks are the best team in the world.
Canada is the best at hockey, followed by Sweden then US. Russians suck.
NHL head office is corrupt, Bettman sucks.
Announcers on NBC and Versus suck.

The Maple Leafs were my Favorite for years,

Grew up with the Leafs. Scored a goal on Johnny Bower when he did hockey camp for the Canuck military brats in Germany in 68. Like the Canadiens too. Can't stand watching it on US networks. They suck at announcing and following the play. Hockey Night In Canada is the gold standard play by play.

Also, crybaby crosby is not amazing... what makes him amazing is the NHL constantly rubbin' up on him. That's it. Of course he's going to seem miraculous when his plays are all everyone talks about...

I hate Criesby but he is the best player in the world at the moment. He's won a Stanley Cup (youngest captain to win), Olympic gold medal, Art Ross (leading scorer), Hart(MVP), Pearson(best player as voted by players) and Richard (most goals) trophies. He's had the highest points per game since the lockout. Last year he led his team in scoring, yet played only half the season. Just look at his stats, he's amazing and plays with second rate wingers.


With regards to West vs East. I posted about the point spreads between teams in the two conferences in the other thread. The west is much more defensive.

The spread between 1st and 10th in the West at the end of the season is usually 12 or points. In the East it's always over 20! Last year only 5 points separated 4th and 10th in the west, whereas it was 21 in the east.

Every point matter in the west, playoff races are much more competitive. The east has a group of good teams (Boston, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay) and a whole lot of shitty teams (Islanders, panthers, thrashers/jets, leafs, Senators, hurricanes, etc)
