Ah, Dream Theater inspired Scandinavian metal! You probably like Everygrey? Their live dvd is great if you like this kind of music:

YouTube - Evergrey - Blinded

YouTube - Evergrey - More Than Ever

A couple of somewhat mellow Youtube videos using Evergrey music:

YouTube - Evergrey - Waking up blind

YouTube - Evergrey - When the walls go down (Wars of the world)

Yngwie who?!! :D

Of course Yngwie predates most thrash metal. This relates to my earlier post about Testament. Alex Scholnik brought Yngwie style guitar to thrash metal...

Very cool Thanks for the post. These guys are friggin awesome.
Never listened to them, but I will now.

Is that from the Lamentations DVD? How do you guys like their latest album? It's no Blackwater Park but I love it!

Yeah, it's Lamentations. They have several heavy songs after they play all of Damnation.

Thanks for reminding me! I have Watershed still in the shrinkwrap. Haven't opened it yet...

Evergrey sounds a lot like Symphony X.
Evergrey seems more prone to toss in a mainstream hook though.

Yeah, they are more in the Power/Melodic Metal category. Not really thrash. Especially on their live dvd, where they have a chorus and orchestra.

Symphony X is great too. The Divine Wings of Tragedy is a classic...

How could we leave out the only cyber-thrash metal band?

Great late-night viewing...

Hell yeah man. I'm a big Dimension Hatross/Nothingface era Voivod fan. But for our purposes, I see this fitting best:

YouTube - Voivod - Chaosmongers

Direct strategy
Against authority
Setting bombs anywhere
Terrorists everywhere
Phantoms execute
What must be their rules
Like a spy disappears
When the trouble is near
The chaosmöngers
Prefer to get away
When people fall down
But they killed the wrong ones
Certainly out of touch
Opinion grows too much
Diplomatic outfits
To control all the risk
Searching for dissidents
Hyper assassins
Hit with simplicity
Big opportunity
The chaosmöngers
Prefer to get away
When people fall down
But they killed the wrong ones
I've gotta know
Who's living here
I've gotta go
Where I can live
Nothing bad happens
To the ones concerned
So if you're upset
Don't take my life to bet
They're gonna see
I'm not from here
No one is free
There's too much fear
During the Craven's war
Please don't ask for more
See what we passed by
A thousand crimes and lies
The social infection is here
Paranoia complication is near
The bluffer's corporation goes on
Another attempted murder
Breaks down
Cause...have strange echoes
Most...of your right goes
Same...same old story
Shame...ain't no glory
Straight...ahead from you
Blame...is waiting for you
Hate...all over you
Rage...against you too.
