Oh man, it's not friday anymore, but I drank a pretty good amount last night, was definitely feeling it today.

Took a couple swigs of monopolowa vodka (actually made with potatoes, very tasty and only $9.99 a bottle at Trader Joe's) just as the taxi got here to take us to a bar, waited for a pool table, listened to some live metal and drank a pint of fat tire.. eventually decided to head to a british pub that had a pool table so we could play. Played a few games there, had a pint of Bodington, then went back to the original bar. Played a few more games, had another fat tire and then got a strong gin and tonic, hit me pretty hard. Fun night.

I guess tomorrow my house is getting a keg for the super bowl.. probably gonna take it easy tonight, we'll see..

This is the best tasting 90 proof alcohol I've ever bought for under $20.. I got it at BevMo, I've been looking all over for it and couldn't find it so I stopped by there to see if they had it and they did. So glad I finally found it. Certainly not the cherry mash.. and I don't think they make a "sour mash" though I could be wrong.

That shit is so smooth and so tasty I could drink the entire bottle if I didn't have to deal with the consequences of having so much alcohol in my system.. in fact if it didn't get me drunk at all I'd consider drinking the whole thing just for the flavor. How many 90 proof alcohols can you say that about? drinking a whole bottle? Pretty rare.

Now wait a minute.. there are some bottles that are just plain nasty and the only reason we choke them down is to get drunk.. bad cheap vodka, for example..

Then there are spirits that taste a bit better, and while 'enjoyable' to take a shot or a few, or at least not as painful as the others, can still pretty difficult to drink in large quantities. What usually ends up happening is you choke down 5 or 6 shots, and then you start to get drunk.. at that point you get more shots to get more drunk and eventually you can barely taste it.

Then there are the high class spirits. These are sipping spirits, and they are delicious.. scotch, some good bourbons, etc.. but you don't need more than a sip to get the full flavor of the alcohol, and drinking large amounts becomes kinda pointless because the buzz is sooo smooth that you only need 2 or 3 or so and suddenly you are feeling like you're on cloud 9..

But I would say a very very tiny percentage of spirits are sooo smooth, and sooo tasty, that I would consider just chugging it if the alcohol for whatever reason didn't affect me. Maker's Mark might be one, and probably quite a few bourbons.. I can't imagine chugging a bottle of scotch, even a $80 bottle is great for sipping, but just not something you want to chug or drink in extremely large quantities.
