I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion.

In the comment you responded to (and which you quoted in your response), I was talking about how using science and reason to find answers to the unknown (like scientists do) was preferable to making up stories to answer the unknown (like young children do). That was a simple and rational statement on my view that it's better to try and discover the truth through reason than to create a "truth" by making up stories.

As you appear to be someone who prefers fairy tales to science, I can see why you would find this troubling, but it was hardly "grandiose pontificating."

We probably aren't going to agree on this, so you keep looking for the answers to every problem in an ancient tome, and I'll keep resorting to more radical methods (e.g. thinking for myself).

Very few do here. :( The Christians should trust that God is capable of reaching His children in the manner necessary for their salvation, and the Atheists should trust that people will eventually mature enough that rationalism will win out. Instead you have a bunch of pit bulls viciously shredding everyone else's beliefs for the sake of self-justification.

Exactly, I believe Christianity is the same story as all religions, just different versions and translations. But, I'm not saying Christianity came first.

Despite being so vocal, at least it's the minority. There are people of all levels of faith, religion, and spirituality who keep away from these threads like they're poison. I guess I have a need to post in them because of the level of insanity; maybe I'm drawn to it.

There's a fundamental misunderstanding of Wicca being expressed (except for the depiction that a lot of them seem to be damned annoying... that's not only anecdotal, but it jives with my own anecdotal encounters), and there are the usual condemnations of anyone who dares to be Christian as being irrational, silly, and of course responsible for any ill that was ever carried out in the name of the religion.

It's par for the course.

Or, in a few years, you might be one of those "born again" types. Both scenarios are fairly unlikely seen from where we're standing right now, but possible.

You really think it is the minority? It seems they are so vocal and vicious they sure make up for what you suggest they lack in numbers. It makes me wonder how you can be for liberty when you have no respect for another's right to self determination on an issue that is so subjective.

Many who claim Wicca as a religion are doing it for shock value. Many adopt the religion after being burned by their own religion and then become very vocal and nasty about their choices. So many of the loud mouths will be flakes. Since Wicca does not really have a creed other than harm none do what you will, the tent is very diverse. Many real witches would say that those who are not living by the creed by being so vindictive are not really a member of the clan, so to speak. No different then those who are Christian disowning many of the warring, vengeful god types.

As for magic, it is mostly a knowledge of nature and development of positive personal choices and mindset. The drama of ritual just helps reinforce one's connection to nature (seen as the extension of the Divine) and develop the visualization of positive response to one's needs. Not much different than any mainstream religion at its core.

As far as this forum? I am absolutely certain it is the minority. The same players are on both sides of the debate (or in the middle) for most of the threads. There are many, many more folks who frequent the forums on a daily basis and don't give a flying copulation about what religion everyone is, so long as no one tries to further their beliefs with force or law. :)
