Obama eats dogs and Romney forces them to ride on top of cars - animal cruelty much?

For some reason in the United States, politicians seem to be thrust upon us who have mistreated animals. Many have heard about the situation with Mitt Romney and his dog. On Tuesday, the story took a new turn down the rabbit hole.

This is not how this writer would solve the problem or needing more space to transport the dog. A more appropriate action may have been to rent a larger car, rent a small trailer or U-Haul for the luggage, or to simply have the dog sit inside the car like a loved member of the family.

Some of you out there may not understand this, but some people really love their pets. This writer knows many people who would never vote for Mitt Romney based on his treatment of Seamus. That a grown man would treat a family pet that way shows this writer a disconnect from the real world. Mitt Romney may not have been aware of the consequences of his actions, or how his behavior affected his dog, but Romney certainly didn't care enough to pull over either. This writer wants a representative who understands that sometimes actions have consequences, unintended or not.

Ann Romney came to her husband's aid regarding Seamus on Monday speaking with Diane Sawyer.

“The dog loved it,” Ann Romney said. “He would see that crate and, you know, he would, like, go crazy because he was going with us on vacation. It was to me a kinder thing to bring him along than to leave him in the kennel for two weeks.”

“Once, he — we traveled all the time — and he ate the turkey on the counter. I mean, he had the runs,” Ann Romney said, laughing as she explained how the dog got diarrhea.

Ann compared the trip to a person riding on a roller coaster. This writer disagrees. A roller coaster doesn't take the rider over 70 MPH for hours straight. In addition, I have the choice to go on a roller coaster. Seamus the dog went "crazy" when he saw the crate, but certainly couldn't speak to say yes or no.

In the beginning of this piece, it stated there were "politicians" who mistreated animals. On Tuesday, the Daily Caller addressed something written in Obama's book:

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.”

The Daily Caller piece has turned to jokes, now justifying Mitt Romney's behavior in comparison to Barack Obama's behavior. Although the Jewish and Islamic religions ban eating dog, it is legal in some countries. It is not, however, appropriate behavior. This is not a joke.

One should not eat a dog and one should not transport a dog on the roof of the car. The fact that this had to be written in itself is a shame (and that neither has apologized).

The article includes the story about what happened with the dog Seamus, I just figured you all would have already heard that ickyness.

Yeah, I saw all the dog recipies flying around twitter yesterday.

"Mango Lassie" stuck in my mind....

but this will end up in the 'opposing candidates section' in a bit.

does RP have a dog? i dont remember... i think carol said she wanted a dog, but ron said something about they'll be too busy to have a dog.

I remember seeing an old black and white picture with him, Carol and a bunch of collies or something. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

People in other countries eat dog. Obama did it when he was a kid. All animals can be eaten. More xenophobic, divisive shit to further wound the GOP's image. Nice work, guys!

How is eating dog animal cruelty? Humans eat plenty of other types of animals. Is it just because they are cute, pets, and usually not eaten in this country?

some people in poor/third world countries eat anything they can get their hands on. Mitt is an idiot and this is whole subject is retarded.

It's animal cruelty when one of Ron Paul's opponents does it. If Ron Paul had admitted to eating dog and the media attacked him for it they'd be like 'fuckin' statists! Why is it ok to eat beef but not dog? It's bad enough when you're not allowed to do drugs, but not eating any animal you please? Is Ron Paul infringing on your rights if he's eating dog? Or using force against anyone? No? Then shut up! RON PAUL 2012 END THE FED"

Oh, please.

I happen to agree that eating dog is just culturally forbidden here, not by any particular logic, but using it to attack forum members isn't ok.

The only reason we don't eat dogs now is because historically they've had greater value by not being eaten (hunting, protection, ect). They still have greater value as our friends than they do as our food. But does it make eating a dog wrong? No. I'd eat a dog if I was hungry just like I would eat a burger. The difference is I don't keep cows as pets.

Obvious animal cruelty is not the same as eating an animal. If it were, just about everyone on the planet would be guilty of it. I'm no fan of his, but what is it with Obama that people find the pettiest shit to throw at him?

...pretty messed up that they came up with that name, because this is a meat-less treat from India.

Edit: It is not worse to eat a dog than it is to eat a cow.

would some animal lovers not like Ron because he breeds collies? i have a few friends that get mad when people get pets from places other than the pound or humane society. i used to be a liberal, so i have a few tree hugging/planet loving/global warming friends lol.
