ok .. the title is a stretch ... but it's true.

The nomination deadline for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize closed Wednesday amid renewed criticism that the award committee has drifted away from the selection criteria established by prize founder Alfred Nobel.
...
Stockholm's County Administrative Board — the authority that supervises foundations and trusts in the city — has formally asked the Nobel Foundation to respond to allegations that the peace prize no longer reflects the will of Nobel, a Swedish industrialist who died in 1896.
...
The move comes after persistent complaints by Norwegian peace researcher Fredrik Heffermehl, who claims the original purpose of the prize was to diminish the role of military power in international relations.
...
"Do you see Obama as a promoter of abolishing the military as a tool of international affairs?" Heffermehl asked rhetorically.
...
The board has an obligation to make sure Nobel's will is respected, and has the authority to suspend the foundation's decisions, going back a maximum of three years, if they do not, Wiman said, adding that such measures were highly unlikely.

How about we all pause for a moment and HOPE for CHANGE!!

It would be nice to see it suspended, but in the end, it doesn't matter a whole lot at this point. It still took away recognition from those that had actually done something to promote peace in the world.

I think the only thing it took away from was the prize itself.

At the expense of those who have spent their lives working toward peace in various conflicts around the world.

The Nobel Peace Prize has been discrediting itself for some time before it gave Obama the prize in 2009. It still gets a lot of recognition, but it seems a good number of Americans don't take it as seriously as they once used to as a result of Obama being awarded it.

Eh Some people would probably defend Obama saying that he got the Nobel Peace Prize and blah blah, but if it was taken away there's honestly no way you can say that he's for peace.

To be honest, having the Peace Prize rescinded would be worse than never having received it at all. This would be a PR disaster for Obama, and something that I think would shake up a lot of sleeping progressives.

They should give the Nobel Peace Prize to Ron Paul.

Haha that's true. I think we'd have to wait and see about that.

They should have never given it to him. How many people has he indirectly murdered during his term? He is, by definition, a psychopath along with anyone that thinks that war in modern times is something that can be justified. Those of us humans that are the most uncivilized find justifications for war.

The rule of law is dead.

giovanile, you are live in walnut? :O i live in diamondbar. we are like neighbors practically.

yeah the peace prize was BS... lets go drop DU and bomb their infrasturcture so they cant get running water and food for days/weeks!

Has anyone decent and non-socialist ever gotten the prize anyway? Mandela, Jimmy Carter,... those are the only ones that come to mind, and they're both socialist.

In a saner world, the people getting the prize would be individuals like Ron Paul, Scott Ritter, Bradley Manning, Julian Assange, and Justin Raimondo. Noam Chomsky and George Galloway are worthy recipients as well. I don't have an issue with Jimmy Carter getting the prize. Awful President, but the man does have a conscience.

Everyone should consider that Henry Kissinger got the Nobel Peace Prize, but Daniel Ellsberg and Mike Gravel of the Pentagon Papers fame didn't.

Yeah, I went to Diamond Bar High School.

Yeah,. honestly, Jimmy at least was spending time in what appeared to be a sincere effort to work for peace.

He was also our last President who wasn't an actor, with every move and every word phony and scripted.

I'm not sure we're remembering the same Jimmy Carter then. Woo, was he ever a mean, spiteful little man. And he definitely said what he thought needed to be said in order to win elections.

Ron Paul has set the standard very high for politicians who don't pander or put on a show, and there are very few others in my eyes that come close.

Well, I wasn't alive during his time, but it just seems, from what I've heard, he was somewhat genuine, had a personality or whatever. Probably you're right; he was just as much a crook as the rest. At least he allowed deregulation of trucking and the airlines, though.

That might be the reason Obama is suggesting a withdrawal from Afghanistan, so his legacy will not be shame, dishonor, and embarrassment.
