Message sent to Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. I may have gone overboard with the George Washington quote lol
Sir.
Due to the inability of the 103rd Democratic led Congress to pass any meaningful legislation concerning the ongoing Iraq war, I have found a solid and constitutional proposal from Texas Republican Ron Paul that I feel is the best strategy to provide oversight to President Bush’s disregard of the laws that he swore to defend. H.R. 2605 Sunset of Public Law 107-243 Act of 2007
According to the original authorization (Public Law 107-243) passed in late 2002, the president was authorized to use military force against Iraq to achieve the following two specific objectives only:

“(1) defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq ; and
(2) enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq ”

Unlike other proposals, this bill does not disapprove of the president’s handling of the war. This bill does not set a schedule for withdrawal. This bill does not cut off money for the troops. Instead, it recognizes that our military has achieved the objectives as they were spelled out in law and demands that Congress lives up to its constitutional obligation to supply oversight. The objectives have been accomplished yet our brave volunteers continue to die.
A good number Americans do not expect a military success in Iraq, yet the Washington politicians remain frozen in their reluctance to change our policy there, fearful of the terrible predictions that circumstances can only get worse when we depart. They refuse to admit that the condition of foreign occupation is the key ingredient that unleashed the civil war now raging in Iraq and serves as a recruitment device for Al Qaida.

“I do not mean to exclude altogether the idea of patriotism. I know it exists, and I know it has done much in the present contest. But I will venture to assert, that a great and lasting war can never be supported on this principle alone. It must be aided by a prospect of interest, or some reward.” George Washington

It is my hope that you will research and ultimately fully support this proposal. It is lawful principled and the logical step to take since we are not willing to use the full power of our military to eradicate the enemy in Iraq.
Any consideration that you give to this matter is greatly appreciated.
