I'm voting for the only small gov't conservative running in the GOP primary, Ron Paul.
If he doesn't get the nomination, I'll look for another small gov't conservative to give my vote to in the general. Thus far, the other GOP candidates don't fit this criteria at all. They're all Obama-lite. Rhetoric aside, their votes betray their true alliances to the out of control growth of the federal gov't and betrayal of their oath of office, in every direction.
I'd sooner pass or, as in 2008, send another protest vote in via a third party, than vote for one of those other RINOs.
I wish this weren't the case. I wish all the GOP candidates held the same basic philosophies as Ron Paul, as they should, and the struggle was just on nuances around how they'd implement their shared philosophies. Alas, we've come to the point in our history where the number of candidates who actually get what small gov't conservatism is all about is rare indeed.
And who's to blame for this sad state of affairs? The GOP establishment and their big gov't RINO candidates. They don't care what I think, but they sure want to keep my vote. I know of no other way to get them to pay attention than to only vote for those candidates who meet the qualifications for small gov't conservatism, and if there are none, to spend my vote on another party's candidate who does, write-in, or stay home, allowing the GOP to see via their vote totals (and hopefully stinging losses), where and why their support is leaking.
If more rank & file conservatives start doing this, the GOP will be forced to change for the better or face extinction. If they don't, the GOP will continue losing to the Democrats, which is moot, since the current GOP is democrat-lite anyway.
