No natural gas, no oil and no propane.

I can't tell if if coal "pellet" stoves flew under the radar or not, or if this includes wood stoves and fireplaces.

Good luck heating a home with electricity in upstate NY.

New York Passes Gas Ban in New Buildings; Strain on Electricity Grid

New York State became the first state in the nation on Tuesday to ban natural gas and other fossil fuels in new buildings, mandating a shift to renewable energy and electricity as the state’s power grid runs short of capacity.

The Washington Post reported:

New York has become the first state in the nation to pass a law banning natural gas and other fossil fuels in most new buildings, a move that could inspire other states and further erode the residential future of the gas industry.

The law effectively requires all-electric heating and cooking in new buildings shorter than seven stories by 2026, and in 2029 for taller buildings. And although it allows exemptions for manufacturing facilities, restaurants, hospitals and even carwashes, the measure does not do what some climate activists had feared: give cities and counties license to override the ban.

The ban also extends to heating oil and propane, raising questions about the future of these fuels in New York state’s more rural communities.

Natural gas currently accounts for 46% of New York’s power supply, the Post notes. The state also infamously banned hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” which has fueled an oil and gas boom in neighboring Pennsylvania.

How in the fuck are they going to heat Buffalo NY with only electric??? The cost would be astronomical. The city would have to be effectively abandoned in the winter.

Buffalo, Rochester, Ithica, Utica, Watertown...pretty much everything west of the Hudson and north of the PA line.

Maybe this is just political payback.

The US House flipped "red" due to wins all across rural NY state.

Freeze and starve them out for having the wrong politics, just like Stalin did to the Georgians.

Wow, maybe that will be how propane prices will go down in other states.

I'm insulated from it, because I get my electricity from a town run, non profit, co-op.

We buy bulk grid contracts every few years to get the best price, so we are consistently lower than surroundings areas.

So I did not realize, until, honestly, Trump mentioned it at his campaign rally in Manchester the other day: NH has the highest utility prices in the nation.

With no large scale pipelines connecting us to gas grid either north or south, and people, rightfully so in my judgement, shutting down large scale import transmission lines from Canada, the state is left in a lurch.

Northern New England had numerous small hydro plants that the looney left have taken out over the years, can't have that.

Seabrook nuclear is coming up on the end of it's life span, can't have another nuke plant. Maine Yankee has long since been shut down.

Schiller station in Portsmouth is still functional but shut down because it's a coal burner.

Where I am, a lot of the local power comes from a wood chip boiler that uses logging waste. Can't have that either.

Probably they should round them up and deport them to a reservation and they can control them easier by only giving rations to the well behaved .

Kinda reminds me of an old sayin my uncles use to use when thing were going well;

(“now you’re cookin’ with gas!)
