Not going to let our mayor run unopposed.

Good luck.

I really liked your website. It explains things, like the CAT, in a simple way that people can easily see and understand.

Small thing I noticed on Sound Money page: First word should be "Ask" - the "k" is missing. :D

Thanks for the proof Carole.

The town is about 25K, but only about 1600 vote in off-year elections. I just have to get 800+1 people to say they'd vote for me... I had planned on doing some concrete pounding. As one of our commissioners told me, "Go wear out a pair of shoes, and talk to people about their concerns."

You should be able to get a list of registered voters... I would hit every single one asking what they are looking for. Also try and be at every council meeting that you can just to be seen, and ask questions when you have the chance.

This. Go to your local clerk's office and ask how you can obtain voter registration data.

I HIGHLY recommend you contact Jared Fuller. He is the Leader of the Wake Forest Young American's for Liberty Chapter. I think he even a coordinator. I would go to www.yaliberty.org and contact them. They should be able to find you his phone number. He may be able to find you many young people willing to help you campaign.

I met him at CPAC, and he is THE man you need to talk to.

I wish you well. I am not sure I would expend energy to oppose someone who you seem to think does a pretty good job, just for the sake of providing an option on the ballot. It sounds like you are in it to win it which is awesome.

I'd personally much rather go after somebody's office who was doing a really crappy job. We are in what could be called a target rich environment. But to each his own, and the fact that you are getting involved and running for office is awesome and I wish you every success.

Site looks great and it sounds like fun!

Best of luck to you. Free some minds!

Already got it and have it plugged into a GIS program. The results are underwhelming. On off year elections, we have about a 1/10th turnout of registered voters.

"Vote for the best. Vote for the Biss"?

I'm not a political consultant. Good luck. :)

Do you have data on the last 5 elections, so you can see who the "likely Republican primary voters" are? If you commit to visiting every single person voting in the town, you should do well! :)

Just had a very unique morning at the Board of Elections... When I got to the office this morning after looking and looking for a parking space in downtown Raleigh, walking in the door at the same time was our own Mayor Jones. "Why hello Mayor Jones!" I greeted her and signed in on the roster. She gave me a short salutation and walked into the registration room.

The two ladies running the sign in table were quite surprised that both mayoral candidates for Wake Forest were signing in at 9:10 AM. One of them asked me if we had come down together. I told her that we had not.

The sign in process was fairly straightforward. As Mayor Jones sat at station two announcing her intention to run for mayor, I was at station one doing the same not more than 10 feet away.

Station three was where we paid our $50 filing fees. The website reads that filing fees over $50 must be paid with a check.

I peeled out two Twenties and a Ten to give to the registrar. She informed me that I had to pay with a check or money order. I asked if she wouldn't mind changing the wording on the website to read "$50 or over" rather than "Over $50" as $50 is not over $50, but is exactly $50.

On my way out the door to the bank to get a money order, I had a reporter from the N&O ask me a couple of questions. The most interesting one was, "Were you tailing the mayor?"

"Why of course not. What you saw back there was a happy, serendipitous coincidence." I then told him about my plans for Transition Town Wake Forest.

He thanked me for my time and I went into the post office, where a very attractive young woman was reading the postal clerk the riot act because the clerk would not ship a regular rate Priority Mail box at the PM Flat Rate price. She quibbled for at least 10 minutes over a $5 difference in shipping price.

Back out on Fayetteville St, I met a nice elderly homeless man named Travis and his wife. We talked for a while, and I took them to breakfast at the ChickFilA, seeing as how they had not eaten yet that morning. Travis' wife gave me a great big ol' hug, "Everyone needs a good hug every once in a while." she said and wished my luck in my mayoral bid.

Back at the board of elections, I paid my $50 money order, notarized my application, and went to station four: Campaign Finance, where I received a book about 1" thick.

Fortunately, the sections geared specifically towards campaigns are not 1" thick. The book also contains the rules for lobbying and political action committees as well. The guy said I could skip those sections.

Some more signed and photocopied paperwork and I was out the door on my way back to Wake Forest. What an unusual morning!

Sounds pretty cool. Good luck, keep us posted!

Definitely contact the Wake Forest YAL.

I looked into this... Problem is that organization is 2 hours away from here.

Wake Forest College moved to Winston-Salem in the mid 1950s when RJ Reynolds (the tobacco company) needed an accredited school to support their teaching hospital. The company gave WFC wads and wads of money to move.

The result nearly bankrupted our little community which is located to the NE of Raleigh. Among the older folks here in Wake Forest, there are still a lot of hard feelings towards RJR for that.

From the things I've read, the group is VERY active in the liberty movement. I just wish they were a little closer.

Tweeting their hats in

Even bids for political office are being reduced to 140 characters.

So far, candidates for mayor and the Board of Commissioners in Wake Forest have launched their campaigns via Twitter -- the latest social media infatuation that is permeating the Web with its quick-hitting status updates and news feeds.

"I am announcing my candidacy for Wake Forest town commissioner," tweeted William Watt Jones, who will try to steal a seat from one of two incumbents up for re-election. Twelve days later, Jones posted a help-wanted add for a volunteer campaign manager on his Twitter feed.

David Bissette, a Ron Paul Libertarian who will try to deny Vivian Jones a third term, also announced his candidacy on Twitter and has since been consistent in tweeting updates about campaign stops across town. It's not too surprising coming from Bissette, 38, who is Internet savvy thanks to years in the online sales business.

2 Hours isn't too bad; it just means you can't use them to their fullest potential with lots of time.

I'd say its worth trying to contact them and see if it is feasible in any way. If it isn't, you haven't lost anything for trying. You might be able to squeeze a couple days out of them.

Cross posted from my Facebook group page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=106913859763

I had a brainstorm tonight as I was working on an idea for a 16x24 campaign sign... why not open it up to designers and artists in this group? I'll pay for it to be printed and your sign will be plastered all over Wake Forest come Sept and Oct.

Imagine the unbridled pride and joy you'll get when you point out to all your family or buddies "Hey, I designed that sign!" as you drive around town. They'll probably get tired of hearing about it after the novelty wears off, but they'll know you designed the campaign sign.

Here's the guidelines:
  • Sign must be 16x24 in size
  • Vector artwork only using 2 Pantone colors. You can use Reflex Blue, Red 485, Pantone Yellow, Orange 165, Green 348, Black
  • It must have the leaf with 3 stars logo that Todd Kavanaugh designed. You can download it at http://davidformayor.com/leaf.eps
  • It also should have the URL for my website DavidForMayor.com

Other than that it's wide open. Please email submissions to [email protected].

This is something I put together this evening. Hopefully someone's got a better idea than this.
