we in NC are getting the clue about delegates, but i cant seem to find the process of actually signing up.

does anyone offhand know if you have to sign yourself up with an application or do you just show up as a registered republican to the Precinct Convention?

i dont need the details of the election process, just the process to sign up as a delegate in North Carolina.

edit>
I found that my County has precinct convention and county convention at the same day/location March 1st. As long as your signed up republican by Jan 31st then you can attend, but you need a supporter to vote for you is my understanding,

i guess you can get someone in your precinct to attend with you and vote for you as a delegate (who is registered republican by Jan 31st), or persuade someone at your precinct meeting to vote for you.

Then they hold the county convention immediately after, and they vote for delegates to the district and state conventions. ive never been to one, so i dont know who gets to vote in teh County Convention- everyone or just delegates from the Precinct meeting. Will be fun to learn.

I was just looking into this. Hope to have all the info by the New Year.

I'd like to know, too. I tried to get in touch with the party leader in my county via the number given by the state party website, but she seems to be a ghost.

There are some members on this forum like Lawson's friends, that are a bit more knowledgeable on this subject then me, hopefully one of them can jump in.

I'm not sure about the exact steps, but it sounds like North Carolina is fairly standard when it comes to the delegate process. Basically you have like a precinct (easy) > county (tougher) > regional (tougher) > regional.

Basically four rounds of voting, but for the first couple if you just get a small base of support you should be fine. It might not be a great idea to state your intentions to vote for Ron Paul until it becomes necessary.

In my case I'll be telling the truth. I'm a fiscal conservative with an empahsis on states rights, a candidate who best fits those desires will likely recieve my vote. Ron Paul or otherwise :)

That said, the Libertarian movement (and fiscal conservatives) in North Carolina are very powerful and I think he stands a great chance of winning this state.

You have to go to your county conventions. Contact your county chairperson for dates. Here in Wilkes there is a monthly breakfast.

I am in NC and our primary is in early May.

Everything will have been decided by then, won't it ?

NC seems like a why even bother state.

Tell me I'm wrong, I will probably get up and actually do something.

As it is, I just send away all the money I can, to be used in States that actually matter.

Looks like we have to be at the District Convention - Late March through Late April

South Carolina needs help. People you bring into Ron Paul's camp will help, they have time and money too.

Spread the word, reach people in States with earlier Primaries -

Reach people in NC that can help spread the word

South Carolina is CRUCIAL - We're close enough to do something to help there like this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Announcing a new event for The Triangle Ron Paul 2008 Meetup!
What: Campaign for Ron Paul in South Carolina
When: Friday, January 4, 7:00 AM
Where: (A location for this event hasn't been chosen yet)
Who should come: All members and whoever they want to bring who is a dedicated Ron Paul supporter.
Why: Every eventual Republican Nominee has won the South Carolina Primary since 1980.
Simply put: a Ron Paul win in SC means he is the Republican nominee.
The campaign is going gangbusters there, and it needs our help to continue the momentum.
Event Description: We will be going down to South Carolina to help the campaign there with door-to-door canvassing, lit drops, phone banking, and whatever else they need help with. The campaign has terrific leadership down there, and with the latest CNN poll in South Carolina placing Paul at 11%, he is taking off in the state. With what are building to be very strong finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire, winning South Carolina would be what would absolutely cement him as the Republican Nominee: no ifs, ands, or buts about it. But if he's going to win South Carolina, the campaign down there needs our help.
I am working with the campaign to charter a bus for supporters to go down. The bus will be departing in the Triangle area and will head to either Greenville, Columbia, or Charleston. Please come on board for this extraordinary opportunity and some real grassroots political campaigning experience!
awesome link! thanks!
i still need an answer if i have to go to the board of elections and sign up with an application type deal, or do i just attend my precinct convention.
also you have to be a delegate elected at the previous convention to vote in all the following conventions, im not sure if thats just the state convention or all of them. so we should just turn out to the precinct convention in February to get the base delegates.
Why is this answer so elusive?
Hello... I'm from Union county and I have also been trying my best to sort this whole process out. Why can we not find an answer to the initial delegate application?
I will be watching this thread and will also go down to the elections office the next chance I get.
We must figure this all out and soon. Thanks for all of your work to post most of the details. Hopefully we can complete the details within a week or so.
please post any info you hear first hand from the board of elections thanks.
Did anybody see this from the greenpapers link?
Is this something we should be concerned about? Or it doesn't matter? Just wondering.
S168, filed 13 February 2007, would move the May Presidential Primary to the first Tuesday in February (5 February 2008). North Carolina held caucuses in 2004. Reference: North Carolina General Assembly, Session 2007, Senate Bill 168 "Presidential Primary in February".
