We have had a lot of great, positive articles in the nolan chart blog, but the latest just stabbed us in the back.

Can Ron Paul's Message Overcome the Damage Done by His Poison Fans?

First paragraphs.

Looks like Dr. Paul's poison fans have killed his campaign. Now the long struggle for 2012 begins. I didn't expect Ron Paul to catch on as well as he has even though I was a backer from the day his campaign started.

I will never understand how people who claim Dr. Paul's message is important to them can refuse to take their own behavior and its consequences seriously. They think this is a game. It is NOT. Our liberty is at stake and these fools think that making public spectacles, shouting fear mongering slogans through a bull horn and chasing talk show hosts in the street is the way to protect our liberty? How did people come to believe such inane tactics are productive?

The page keeps timing out, so I can't read the whole article, but based on the excerpt posted here, it's sounds pretty accurate.

The ones who are really stabbing us in the back are the doofus kids who think we can win the Republican nomination by screaming at people, peppering our speech with leftist slogans, and refusing to engage with actual Republican voters.

If you want to win, ditch the Che Guevara t-shirt, put on a tie, and go meet the members of your local Republican Party.

Nolan Charts, from my understand, has many many contributors. I've read many positive articles from them, and read many negative.

This one is just another negative one. Nothing more. Blame the supporters. Blame the campaign HQ. We need to blame someone.

I think the article is right on. Look at how many times the media makes fun of Ron Paul's supporters when they can't attack him on the issues directly. Had we not given them the ammunition with all those acts of stupidity then they would have had a much harder time tearing our man down.

Agreed. 100%

Well it is a "revolution" and revolution it will be.
It is way too late to work within the system.
The kids are learning how fixed it is, so they
are angry. Can't say I blame them.

Too bad I didn't know about them before I gave him my hard earned money.

Nolan's article is spot on. I believe in free speech, but I cringe at some of the language used on this forum, and the attitudes some people show.

But the Paul Campaign has to take some of the blame, as well. It should have hired experienced professionals to be running the top aspects of this campaign.

they make several good points

To put it bluntly: there are many types of libertarians, but they seem to fall in roughly two groups.

The first type of libertarian is your ordinary citizen who has given some deep thought to the inner mechanisms of the political process and to rights-based philosophy.

This type of liberatarian behaves with ease in social situations, but doesn't necessarily need social situations; or even if he/she does, he/she has come to logical conclusions about the respective division of power between the State and Federal sovereigns and the natural rights that belong to each citizen. Furthermore, this type of liberatarian is not the kind of person that would impose his or her beliefs on you, and would expect the same of you. Thus, this type of libertarian is NOT the kind of person who would ferverently campaign for any particular candidate. Politics is odious to them, because it necessarily involves the imposition of power on other people, which is of no interest to them.

The second type of libertarian is a fringe libertarian, or someone whose beliefs merely coincide with and are furthered by libertarian philosophies. Unfortunately, this type of libertarian also possesses the exact qualities that the first type does not: a fervent need to "get the truth out," combined with a fatal lack of self-awareness vis a vis what persuades people in social situations and what borders on sheer lunacy.

The tragedy of the libertarian position is that the first type is completely eclipsed by the second type, and thus the latter becomes a symbol for our philosophy.

I love the passion these young people have. It takes me back to the 1960's, when we were also cast as freaks and social outcasts because we bucked the "status quo". It didn't earn us any respect from the older generation then and it won't earn it now.

If you are really serious about getting RP the nomination, then you must, YOU MUST, get the attention of the baby boomers. Go into stealth mode, put on your undercover gear (polo shirt and slacks, if necessary). Make sure your hair is neat, if it's long put it in a tail and hide it under your collar. Be polite, use the words ma'am and sir. Dress to impress, believe me it works.

Well written. I am of the first type with the exception I will fervently campaign for Ron Paul. I have complained about the second type, and I was not treated with much respect at all. Some will take any criticism as an attempt at division while my true intent is an attempt to present ourselves where we are much more palatable. That usually turns into the perception/reality debate.

If you want to win you have to play the game. My mother visited the other night, she's 64, I'm 44. I've talked about Ron Paul with her. The TV was on in the kitchen and she mentioned Keith Olbermann was actually going to mention our man. She's heard me complain about the lack of media coverage. I knew damn well what Keith was going to air. The TV went off, I wasn't really interested in politics that night. I don't feel bad or deceptive because it wasn't about Ron Paul, it was about a mob scene. Again, the perception/reality debate. Don't waste your time with that debate. Play the game.

I'm voting for Ron Paul regardless of actions like these, I am not voting for that mob to take office. My vote will greatly influence the rest of YOUR life, don't scare away a generation that is willing to help you. Most people my generation are NOT like me so play the f'n game for now, and by the way, you need my generation behind you.

I think whoever wrote the article is correct. Sometimes I think that these "poison" fans as he calls them are actually supporters of other candidates trying to bring down Ron Paul by acting insane. But I'm pretty sure I'm wrong. These people actually are Ron Paul supporters, but they're hurting him big time. Instead of acting well-reasoned, they're acting like they've escaped the asylum, and they keep bringing in their own agendas (9/11 was an inside job, CFR, and other conspiracy theories).

About the CFR thing, regardless of whether it's true or not, we don't need to be mentioning it. We can discuss it after Ron Paul wins. But if we talk about that now, we sound crazy and paranoid and no one wants to listen to a raving nut screaming on the side of the street. Just keep the lid on those types of things.

2nd place in Nevada, beat Julie Annie in SC and a boatload of money on hand. Yeah, the newsletters really killed the campaign.
