NH: Any US Congress Seats Worth The Effort There? + Ayotte Question

Benson beat Shaheen in the Governor race in 2002:

She didn't run in 2002. He beat a Democrat who's campaign was centered on creating a New Hampshire income tax. Anyone could have beaten that Democrat because even NH Democrats are against the income tax.

You are welcomed to care about federal politics all you want. I do in so much as it is interesting and helps me with state politics but most of the really good activists in NH have little concern with federal politics, especially the FSP folks. Part of the reason some of us moved to NH is because we realize that the US is broken and cannot be fixed. I say, let's try to fix something, 1 state. It isn't everything but it's a start.

It is just so hard for a person to write or pass a bill without much help on a national level. However, it happens all of the time in NH. If you are still focused on national stuff, you just don't get it. There is zero evidence to suggest that it is possible to reform the government on the national level. Zero evidence. Look into that.

I'm painfully aware of it bro :(

Yeah I read it wrong. Shaheen was retiring.

Former Gov Craig Benson?

I like him. He was an awesome governor, I've met him, great guy. He got screwed because his administration was all scandal-y. I loved his commission to find cost reduction in government. The organization was headed by perennial libertarian gubernatorial candidate John Babiarz, and it sent Benson a recommendation trimming $120 million/yr. If Benson saw a second term that would have seen the light of day.

While I would love to see him in office, he's going to have a huge image problem unless we can summon some serious grassroots in NH.

Much of his image problem was created by him being short to people and not campaigning hard. Even a lot of Republicans didn't like him. He is quite wealthy and could likely win if he threw $5,000,000 of his own money into a campaign. However, since when he ran for reelection he didn't put a lot of his money into his campaign, I don't see why he would do that now :(

I was a big supporter of his in 2004, sign on my lawn and everything (in Keene of all places), it's a shame.
