Yeah, that's certainly true, but I was also thinking along the lines of his brain chemistry being altered from being hit on the head so many times. Studies have shown even high school players suffer deliberating depression at a much higher rate than non-players. I would not want anyone I care about playing competitive football.

Well, sure there is very likely an element of addiction since codeine is a opiate, but I'm guessing pain management is also a huge part of the reason why he takes it.

I've been ranting about this story on twitter and facebook for the past couple days. Donte Stallworth gets 30 days for killing someone. Michael Vick gets 23 months for killing dogs for fun. Johnny Jolly gets 6 years for drinking medicine and soda. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Everyone should watch that Outside the Lines piece on Johnny Jolly. It is horrifically sad. Aaron Rodgers has spoken out about how the NFL is hurting Jolly more than helping.

I remember sitting in a court room full of people who had committed crimes, waiting my turn to be called, and they went past my name alphabetically twice in what seemed to have been the order of "severity" of the crimes. Some people had committed actual theft and violation of rights of others while I was charged for possession of steroids, and, with me going last, I got the worst punishment out of everyone.

I used the stuff for a little while in high school, was going through some tough times (broke up with a girl) and was working at a pharmacy at the time which gave me access to all kinds of stuff. One night I mixed it with beer, Marijuana and tranquilizers. The mixture messed me up so bad that my friends had to take me to one of their houses because I couldn't stop shaking. That was the last time I messed with pharmaceuticals...

I have my mother and her brother, my fave uncle, in the grave decades early from overdoses of pain pills. I gathered the pills from my mothers stash and there was over 20 bottles with anywhere from a couple to 60 pills in them. The docs give this out like candy. I smoke pot and do no pills and I am my own doctor. I refuse to get healthcare insurance or comply with any mandate as I do not trust western medicine. Food is my healer.
