Gingrich warns of third party in 2012
Posted: 11:56 AM ET

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

The former Republican Speaker discussed 2012 during a recent speech at a Missouri college.
(CNN) — Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is warning of a third party mutiny in 2012 if Republicans don’t figure out a way to shape up.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Tuesday. The speech, to a group of students at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, was recorded by Springfield TV station KY3.

But Gingrich, bemoaning President Barack Obama’s “monstrosity of a budget,” acknowledged that Republicans are partially to blame for the escalation in federal spending.

"Remember, everything Obama’s doing, Bush started last year,” he said. “If you’re going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama’s first two, three months.”

Gingrich told the students that the current governmental system “is so sick, so out of touch and so arrogant that you’re going to have a nationwide rebellion at the polls of people in both parties who are just fed up.”

“You can do a Facebook page, you can Twitter,” he said. “I Twitter right now and I think we’re at like, I don’t know, 18,000 or 20,000 thousand people that follow my Twitter, which I have to say I think is nuts. But there are ways to communicate, you’re not trapped by CBS news.”

Gingrich has repeatedly said that he will decide in early 2011 whether he plans to seek the White House in 2012.

So Gingrich is going to start his own 3rd party? The Reagan (not so conservative) Revolution 2.0

no I doubt it..I'm sure he's talking about a mass exodus to existing third partys...this is good though. I've recruited 4 so far to my local libertarian party. I had to give up on the gop...they are STILL doing the WRONG THINGS> tones

Third party please. The current ones are destroying my country.

If Newt is saying it, then they must feel that they can co-opt an existing one, or start a new one that can be controlled.

Thanks, Tonesy! :) You're probably my favorite archist on the webbernet. :D ~hugs!~:)

good that Newt said "both parties". This is why we must be certain to share our message of liberty and constitutionalism with everyone.

Freedom is popular for everyone!

Here we go, time to talk about losing to Clinton due to Ross Perot.

That was the extent of the 3rd party “buzz” on the networks last go around, and I don’t expect much more than “spoiler” talk like this.

Paul was excellent for pointing outside his party for answers, seems ol’ Newt is content with giving his party 700 billion more chances.

I believe this is simple scare tactics, some early herding, an early rally for failin’ Palin or the Rombot.

"Remember, everything Obama’s doing, Bush started last year,” he said.

See if Newt reminds anybody of this next go around. Yeah right.

Bunkloco

If its led by Newt it will just split the difference of the current 2 Wall Street parties.

It's funny. I got 2 phone calls from good ole Newt earlier this year. (Well, his organization anyway). I guess I'm on all kinds of GOP contact lists after donating to Ron Paul. Anyway during the first call the operator kept asking me if I wanted to join Newt in "resting big government" blah blah blah. I asked her what Newt thought about the bailout. She said "He was the one leading out against the bailout." I thought..."Hmmmm....I remember Ron Paul, Richard Shelby and others speaking out, but I don't remember Newt." I thanked her and told her I wasn't interesting in joining anything at that time. After she hung up I looked up Newt's record and found out he had at first PUBLICLY supported the bailout before coming out against it! Now may he could claim that he was now against the bailout, but claiming he had "led the fight" against the bailout is total BS. The next time I got a call I informed the operator of my discovery and told him to take me off their list.

All of these fakers that went along with all things Bush are now scrambling to make themselves credible and relevant again. That's fine. Let them help us by putting out our message. But at the same time we have to be ready to point out "Hey buddy! You were part of the problem!"

Paranoid much? tones

Newt built his career on the New Christian Right Movement. Was that movement about making the rich richer and cutting our liberties? Or was it about ending abortion? Did abortion end? Or did our liberties get curtailed and our money get taken for the rich to enjoy? If you didn't see Newt's hand in that, you didn't pay one stick of attention at the time...

Newt is a impeccable thinker but a lousy human being. You can't trust him. ;)

I kept waiting for a third party last year, Newt plans to lead the Independent Republicians, that is what we were told to call ourselves, when the first amendment was finally allowed to superceed the 11th comandment. Too little too late. If any of you read Townhall, yesterday they had one article that said the GOP was not divided, the next article was division in the GOP.
