Hey guys! Great job on the newspaper efforts. I've been trying to figure out how to get people together for something like this, but ran into snags on the finance side. Where are we? What can I do? I'm a graphic/web designer in Columbia, SC.
If you are interested, you could help create the actual insert. Myself and my lady have been working on this, but we are new at this, so if you are interested and have experience we could certainly use your input on this.
The insert is sized 8" x 10.5", because I think we have to leave a half inch margin. Anyways, its going to be glossy color, with two sides. This ad is specifically targeting South Carolina, so we thought to utilize elements of the South Carolina flag as well as the Fort Moultrie flag in the design we are looking for. We found a great picture of Ron Paul and a great logo that work well as a header.
The second page would have a different picture of Ron Paul in the left corner, with the "Liberty" from the Revolutionary flag down at the bottom of the page, centered more right. Not all of what is going into the ad has been worked out, but we have this already, kind of to be in the area right of the crescent moon (all the text would be white with a gleam of silver on the edge, perhaps):
Who is Ron Paul, the Republican candidate for President? Dr. Paul served his country as a flight surgeon after the Cuban missile crisis. As a young doctor, Ron Paul worked nights in the emergency room of an inner-city hospital, taking care of everyone, whether they could pay or not. As an ob/gyn, Ron Paul delivered over 4,000 babies. Dr. Ron Paul knows our healthcare system needs real change, where patients and doctors are in charge, not big corporations or government bureaucrats.
As a congressman for almost two decades, Ron Paul knows our Constitution is there to protect our freedom and limited government. He has never voted for a tax increase or an unbalanced budget. His record clearly shows he will cut taxes and stop runaway spending. People who know him call him the taxpayer's best friend.
We've simply been working with Times New Roman, but it would be interesting to see it in different fonts as well to find the best one.
We were working to see his stance on some of the important policies filling most of page one and into page two, and this is what I've got so far on some of that:
Dr. Paul understands illegal immigration and is dedicated to successfully treating the problem. Ron Paul's stance is the same as Beaufort County's recent ordinance seeking to deter companies from hiring illegal immigrants - we need to eliminate the incentive for illegal immigration. Ron Paul represents South Carolina in its fight agansit illegal immigration.
"Make no mistake, Americans are happy to welcome immigrants who follow our immigration laws and seek a better life here. America is far more welcoming and tolerant of newcomers than virtually any nation on earth. But our modern welfare state creates perverse incentives for immigrants, incentives that cloud the issue of why people choose to come here. The real problem is not immigration, but rather the welfare state magnet. - Ron Paul"
A better quote on illegal immigration should replace that one if it exists.
Ron Paul stands for border security. American Troops should be home, defending our national security here. Our military presence and intervention in the Middle East and around the planet costs American taxpayers a trillion dollars a year and gives incentives for Islamic radicals to gain power. We threaten our national security by creating enemies and leaving our own borders unprotected and our troops vulnerable to attack. As President, Ron Paul could bring our troops home from around the planet and stabilize American borders and our national economy.
Since 2002, the price of oil has jumped from $25 a barrel to nearly $100 a barrel. No wonder gas prices are so high. The cost of running foreign military operations threatens our economy and our environment. The Pentagon uses more oil than 180 countries, contributing to global warming, and costing the American taxpayer a trillion dollars a year, roughly the amount of federal income taxes Americans pay. Ron Paul stands for eliminating the federal income tax, to let Americans keep their money to take care of themselves, their homes, and their families. As President, Ron Paul will change our foreign policy to cut federal spending to make this possibillity a reality, with South Carolina's support.
This is just what I've come up with, and I'd definitely appreciate collaboration to ensure we've got the best we can have.
I have more to plan on that will get into how Ron Paul stands for the Constitution, freedom, liberty, restrained, transparent federal government, state rights, and how the American Revolution is still being fought today, and that we South Carolina to continue their rich heritage of standing for the ideals America is founded upon.
Also, we were looking for the best Ron Paul quote for the ad to include to the left of the palm tree at the bottom right corner of page one, and this is what we've found so far:
Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons." ~Ron Paul, Security and Liberty
Any help in beginning to work out the rest of the ad is greatly appreciated. I work tonight and have to get some sleep soon, so if no one else picks up on this, myself and my lady will begin again tomorrow morning. We have a small frame of time in which we need to have this advertisment ready for the papers and ready to be displayed so we can raise our funding, so we'll need to work fast to launch this.
