Newspaper Strategy + Every Newspaper In SC

Since Huckabee is trying to take credit for a move to end birthright citizenship, you could mention that Ron Paul has authored this bill in Congress:

HJRES46 (2007:110th Congress) - "American Citizenship Amendment"

"Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to deny United States citizenship to individuals born in the United States to parents who are neither United States citizens nor persons who owe permanent allegiance to the United States."

Summary: This proposed constitutional amendment would change birthright citizenship in the United States by altering the language of the citizenship clause of the 14th amendment to the US constitution. Currently, "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." This amendment would change that, so that only children of US citizens or "persons who owe permanent allegiance to the United States" would automatically be US citizens at birth.

The stated purpose of this amendment is to make illegal immigration less appealing, as Ron Paul and others believe that "anchor babies" (children born on United States soil to illegal immigrants and who are therefore US citizens) are a strong contributing factor to it. Hey guys! Great job on the newspaper efforts. I've been trying to figure out how to get people together for something like this, but ran into snags on the finance side. Where are we? What can I do? I'm a graphic/web designer in Columbia, SC.

If you are interested, you could help create the actual insert. Myself and my lady have been working on this, but we are new at this, so if you are interested and have experience we could certainly use your input on this. :)

The insert is sized 8" x 10.5", because I think we have to leave a half inch margin. Anyways, its going to be glossy color, with two sides. This ad is specifically targeting South Carolina, so we thought to utilize elements of the South Carolina flag as well as the Fort Moultrie flag in the design we are looking for. We found a great picture of Ron Paul and a great logo that work well as a header.

The second page would have a different picture of Ron Paul in the left corner, with the "Liberty" from the Revolutionary flag down at the bottom of the page, centered more right. Not all of what is going into the ad has been worked out, but we have this already, kind of to be in the area right of the crescent moon (all the text would be white with a gleam of silver on the edge, perhaps):

We've simply been working with Times New Roman, but it would be interesting to see it in different fonts as well to find the best one.

We were working to see his stance on some of the important policies filling most of page one and into page two, and this is what I've got so far on some of that:

Dr. Paul understands illegal immigration and is dedicated to successfully treating the problem. Ron Paul's stance is the same as Beaufort County's recent ordinance seeking to deter companies from hiring illegal immigrants - we need to eliminate the incentive for illegal immigration. Ron Paul represents South Carolina in its fight agansit illegal immigration.

"Make no mistake, Americans are happy to welcome immigrants who follow our immigration laws and seek a better life here. America is far more welcoming and tolerant of newcomers than virtually any nation on earth. But our modern welfare state creates perverse incentives for immigrants, incentives that cloud the issue of why people choose to come here. The real problem is not immigration, but rather the welfare state magnet. - Ron Paul"

A better quote on illegal immigration should replace that one if it exists.

Ron Paul stands for border security. American Troops should be home, defending our national security here. Our military presence and intervention in the Middle East and around the planet costs American taxpayers a trillion dollars a year and gives incentives for Islamic radicals to gain power. We threaten our national security by creating enemies and leaving our own borders unprotected and our troops vulnerable to attack. As President, Ron Paul could bring our troops home from around the planet and stabilize American borders and our national economy.

Since 2002, the price of oil has jumped from $25 a barrel to nearly $100 a barrel. No wonder gas prices are so high. The cost of running foreign military operations threatens our economy and our environment. The Pentagon uses more oil than 180 countries, contributing to global warming, and costing the American taxpayer a trillion dollars a year, roughly the amount of federal income taxes Americans pay. Ron Paul stands for eliminating the federal income tax, to let Americans keep their money to take care of themselves, their homes, and their families. As President, Ron Paul will change our foreign policy to cut federal spending to make this possibillity a reality, with South Carolina's support.

This is just what I've come up with, and I'd definitely appreciate collaboration to ensure we've got the best we can have. :D

I have more to plan on that will get into how Ron Paul stands for the Constitution, freedom, liberty, restrained, transparent federal government, state rights, and how the American Revolution is still being fought today, and that we South Carolina to continue their rich heritage of standing for the ideals America is founded upon.

Also, we were looking for the best Ron Paul quote for the ad to include to the left of the palm tree at the bottom right corner of page one, and this is what we've found so far:

Any help in beginning to work out the rest of the ad is greatly appreciated. I work tonight and have to get some sleep soon, so if no one else picks up on this, myself and my lady will begin again tomorrow morning. We have a small frame of time in which we need to have this advertisment ready for the papers and ready to be displayed so we can raise our funding, so we'll need to work fast to launch this. :)

I love the idea! I think the way you're going on design will really catch people's eye!

I have some suggestions/ideas, and would love to work with you to spruce it up, get it ready for the printer, etc. If you want to email me what you have so far (the file you're working with, any image files, etc), I'd love to help out! I've also got some wording ideas I had been working on myself.

I think we need to address the question of electability. Include that he won 10% of Iowa and 8% of NH, so he still has a chance in the primaries. In the general election, he is the only repub with a shot b/c he's the only one that has distanced himself from Bush and the other convicts and has never been a party line man...
 
There is a new very local newspaper that is being circulated in a small segment of Myrtle Beach. It's called the Carolina Forest Chronicle. I know a LOT of people are reading it right now, because it is brand spanking new, AND they are delivering it to every house in the area (at least a few thousand) for free. Every single edition.

The paper says its' website is www.cfchronicle.com, but that pages yields nothing for me.


Do we need a PAC to run these adverts? I'd be willing to call and get ad pricing. Can anyone figure a way to start getting us some donations?

We are in the process of going door to door in Carolina Forest.
 
I'll donate to this project. Small and medium size newspaper ads will be very effective. Note that the Jefferson County IA group ran the ads for 13 weeks in succession, in the local weekly paper.

Jefferson County success was due not only to the newspaper ads but to a very active meetup group. The group met once a week and had various activities. One leader from the meetup said they didn't bother with phone calls or mailings to registered Republicans because they soon found this group to be unreceptive; instead they worked on the undecideds and independents.
 
So I've been contacting papers all over the state trying to get advertising rates, and these are the ones I have so far:

Circulation weekdays: 14,618
Circulation Sundays: 16,172


Rates:
$16.78 a column inch.
Full page ad would cost $2,114.28
Half page ad would cost $1,057.14
Quarter page ad would cost $528.57
Half page ad opposite the op/ed page for $375 an ad
You do have to sign up to reserve your space
All of the above rates are in b/w.

Greenwood and the surrounding lakelands area is home to lots of gold course communities and lake communities...lots of "transplanted Northerners." Also large population of laid off mill workers. Issues that are important in the area are Right to Life, 2nd Ammendment, STATES RIGHTS (big, big big), and the economy. Ads highlighting this info would be great here.

I've got contact info for advertising reps at this paper, if anyone wants it.

Columbia is one of the more liberal places in South Carolina, and the Free Times is read by lots of college students and more liberal leaning readers. Free Times mentions Ron Paul in just about every issue now, so it would be a good place to put one of the more Independent ads.



That's what I've got for now. I'll try to get more asap.

I'm trying to get some sign waiving, cavassing, etc going, so any help with the ads from those of you outside of SC, it would be greatly appreciated.
