Newbie gun ownership questions

I Like Revolvers

Get a Ruger Security 6, .357, 4" barrel, custom grips, and it is easily concealable using a shoulder holster. And will cost you under $250. But follow the advice of others up here - learn how to load it, clean it, and shoot it. And get a carry permit (if your state issues them). I would not advocate a "black market" weapon; don't get too freaky about registration, and don't support your local gang. Buy your pistol from a reputable dealer, do the waiting period (if any is required) and you won't have any problems. At this time, we are far from government confiscation (which I am against and would resist). And I really don't believe that we all need AK-47s, Uzis and .50 Cal machine guns. And one last thing - join the NRA, if you want to defend your 2nd Amendment rights.

Better to join the GOA.
NRA has been selling out gun owners, and is endorsing Gun Grabbers.

They have opposed Ron Paul and worked against him. They are now supporting gun control.

The NRA has not opposed Ron Paul. Ron Paul was not at their Presidential Candidate pow wow a few months ago because the campaign staff lost the invite and didn't open it until after the event. This was held at a time when Ron Paul's campaign staff was a lot smaller than it is now. You can't say the NRA opposes Ron Paul because his staff dropped the ball.

I haven't see any of this NRA supporting gun grabber stuff. The GOA is a good organization but they cry wolf on everything. The bill the GOA calls the "Veterans Disamament Bill" did not do any of the stuff the GOA said it would do. I read the freakin bill myself online. The bill was simply made to ensure guys like Hung Wang Chow Ho Chi Men (or whatever the punk who shot up VA Tech's name is) are in the NCIS database because they were already deemed to be mental nutcases. The bill didn't make it so Veterans could not purchase guns unless the veteran was deemed by a court of law to be a nutcase. This was really a bill so the Carolyn McCarthy (the bitch from NY) and Nancy Pelosi's of congress could go back to their wacko liberal districts and say they did something about gun control.

The NRA got a lot of good stuff added to the bill. Before the bill, if you were in the database as being someone banned from buying a gun because the government screwed up you had NO WAY of getting your name out of the database. You couldn't even sue. Now there is a process to get your name out of the database. Also there are new rules so if you were deemed to be a nutcase (in a court of law) you can get your rights restored after your said to be ok.

I realize some of you think the database is a bad idea. I do too. But you need to realize that our second amendment rights have been slowly taken away one step at a time. We can't get them all back in one giant leap. We'll have to take them back one step at a time.

Things like Concealed Carry permits shouldn't be needed. But the more people that have them the harder it is for the gun banners to say gun control is the solution. Many states have had concealed carry laws for over 10 years and there have been many good news stories done about how all the fears of the laws (blood in the streets, people getting in car accidents and then shooting each other) have all not come true. This is giving fuel to the fire in some states to get rid of the need for a permit altogether. It also isn't registration because you are not registering the gun (in most states). My permit allows me to carry any weapon, not just a firearm. It could be a knife with a blade of more than 4 inches or whatever.

The NRA opposed Ron Paul and endorsed Shane Sklar.
NRA: "A" RATED
September 29th, 2006
SKLAR IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE IN TX-14 TO RECEIVE THE NRA'S "A" RATING.
PAUL GETS ONLY A "B."

VICTORIA, TX -- The National Rifle Association-Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) announced today that Shane Sklar, Democratic candidate for Congress (TX-14), has received an "A" Rating, while Republican Ron Paul received a "B."

"I am honored to receive this designation," said Sklar. "I grew up hunting with my family and intend to pass down those traditions to my children. As a member of the National Rifle Association, I'm proud that the NRA has recognized that I will stand for our values in Congress."

According to the NRA-PVF, an "A" rating indicates a "solidly pro-gun candidate" who "has expressed strong support for NRA positions on second amendment issues."
That is only one insult. There is more.

This bill would not stop Cho, as he never met the requirements. This bill does open up everyones medical records to see IF THERE MIGHT BE S REASON to deny ownership.
The provision to correct mistakes was always there.
THEY JUST REFUSE TO DO IT. I know, I have had my rights restored, and they REFUSE to correct it. It cost me a felony conviction. Don't tell me this bullshit. I was charged for a gun I did NOT own.
Brady and NCIS need to be abolished, not enhanced.
The NRA used to do some good stuff but much like the GOP they have been taken over by those that do not have our best interests in mind.
Even Romney , in the last debate used them to justify his gun bans, saying that even the pro gun folks asked for it.
There has been far too much compromise, and " this is good, we are less screwed than we would have been" is not a fair response.

The Government has NO business "permitting" RIGHTS.
They have NO business recording guns, gun ownership, or gun sales.
They should assume that every American is armed. And everyone that choses to be should be, WITHOUT RESTRICTION.

You have a powerful point.

Here is what the press did with a list of concealed permit holders.

http://www.vcdl.org/static/action.html

Even Democrats are outraged at the media and voting to enhance gun owners rights in Virginia despite the Virginia Tech Shooting.

The Gun owners concealed permits list will probably no longer be allowed to published in the press after that stunt.

In the last week, hundreds of gun owners descended on the capitol in Richmond to talk to their state legislators.

This can be done in every state.

I would buy a SKS and 1000rds of ammo and you would be set as long as you would practice with it.

+1

and yes the NRA is a corrupt org! They are not for restoring the second. They are for themselves and other power hungry lovers of big government.

Go GOA!
