Hi there!

I never felt the need to have a gun until recently, and have decided that I would like to get one.

I want a semi-automatic hand gun of some type, that is easily concealable and decently cheap (<$300 ). Does anybody have recommendations?

Also, should I get a gun on the black market as opposed to registering for one? I am skeptical about letting the government know that I have one, so in the case that shit hits the fan they wont come knocking on my door to confiscate it.

Any thoughts/tips/etc? Thank you

To be honest, I cant say, short of a local fire sale, that Id recommend any semi-auto for under $300 msrp. There are some good quality pieces in the 400-500 range though.

If you are a novice I would suggest a revolver for a first handgun. You wont accidently forget to engage the safety because they dont have one. Hard trigger pull unless cocked. Get at least .38 Special... Used ones for less than $300

As with all other "what gun should I buy?" threads, I have to ask, what do you intend to do with the pistol? Your choice will revolve around that.

It's hits that count so practice, practice, practice.

If you are going to take practice seriously then a goo choice might be a Ruger 22/45 or a Browning Buckmark. These will be in your price range. They are both 22LR. That means you can practice on the cheap. People will say that a 22 is not a lethal caliber. That is a lie.

If you enjoy the sport you won't stop with just one anyway.

A Glock 23 (.40 S&W) is nice and compact, and you should be able to find a used one for about 300 bucks.

As for black market.... Don't. The anti-gun states will burn you far worse for that one than just about anything else.

I only own one gun. It's a Glock 30 (.45 caliber subcompact) but I LOVE it.

I think it runs around $500 new these days. Used you could probably find one around $300 I bet.

For under $300 you can get a 9x18 Makarov. These are very nice pistols, with a good track record. You can also get a nice revolver within that price range, and I would suggest looking into them. If you're up to saving up a little more money, I'd get a Glock, I love my G23!

I didnt think about used, but then again, I dont buy used undewearz

With all these glockers on here, I have to be different and say if you buy a composite semiauto pistol, I MUCH prefer the Springfield XD. The grip angle on the glock is wierd and it just feels mushy in general.

Interesting thread. I own several firearms that are based around the things I enjoy hunting, but I've want to purchase a semi-auto pistol as I enjoy target shooting with them.

I'd like to get one that I could accessorize with a lamp and a laser sight to try night target shooting, and that would also be good as an emergency personal defense item.

I'd want to put the whole package together for <$2000 possible with premium, but maybe not top-shelf equipment.

Any suggestions?

Bersa Thunders (in .380ACP) are small light and concealable, very good semi-autos and cost about 250 bucks.

My recommendation is to get a rifle first.

Unless you already have or plan to get a concealed carry type license to carry a pistol.

If you do not, get a rifle first.

The one I would recommend is the SKS.

You can buy one for about $265 at a gunshow AND if you are paying attention, you might be able to pick one up from a private dealer, a private sale.

They are cheap, they are VERY reliable, AND they are semi-auto, ammo is very cheap too.

They are good from point blank range(like in your home out to about 400 yards).

Considering your price range, get a SKS first. From where you are coming from, SKS rifle is a FAR superior weapon than ANY pistol, if the
SHTF.

Get a rifle first, then get a pistol.

Considering your post, if I was in your shoes, I would buy a SKS and 1000rds of ammo and you would be set as long as you would practice with it.

For a rifle, how about a FN FAL kit from this guy. And he's a Ron Paul supporter to boot.

The only question I have is, is this guy selling kits so you don't have to register? and is the kit complete? It is hard to tell from the pictures.

The tauras is a good conceal gun for around 300. but I just bought a high point for 150. which is heavier & not a good conceal gun. I would suggest you go ahead & regester & get a conceal permit if you need to carry it on you.

Makarov in 9x18. Utterly reliable, concealable, and cheap at $169.

I say this respectfully, and dont want to start a hostile argument. But if you shoot someone with this you may make them mad.
