For months, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has told potential donors and Republican higher-ups he has no interest in running for the White House in 2012.

But over the past two weeks, political advisers and friends say, Mr. Perry has changed his tune on a possible presidential campaign. In private conversations, they say, the three-term governor said he worries that the current GOP contenders have yet to stir real excitement within the party and may struggle when facing President Barack Obama. "He thinks there is a void [in the current field of candidates], and that he might be uniquely positioned to fill that void," said one Perry confidant who talked to the governor last week. In these conversations, the governor has emphasized his own track record in bringing jobs to Texas, which has created more jobs than any other state in recent years. That success, he has told supporters, would position him well in an election that will likely pivot on jobs. The conversations add detail on Mr. Perry's thinking. He generated
political buzz two weeks ago when he told reporters he planned to "think about" a presidential run after the Memorial Day weekend. He added, with a smile, "But I think about a lot of things."

He has potential to sweep all the states in the old Confederacy and become the new Jefferson Davis.

Sources: Rick Perry is running (6/9 Matt Lewis)
Two separate and reliable sources in Texas tell me serious preparations are being made for Governor Rick Perry, 61, to seek the Republican nomination for president.

Dave Carney and Rob Johnson — the former top Perry aides who on Thursday left Newt Gingrich’s floundering campaign — are said to be heading to Texas soon to join in on preparations for the run. I am told this is now “ninety percent likely to occur.” Additionally, Perry allies have begun holding meetings in the state and have been instructed to quietly reach out to contacts in early primary states...

Oh, he's gonna run alright. He's a bag of hot air. Paul's campaign should give a call to Debra Medina and get all the facts and figures she compiled on his record. Surely, we have a connection into Medina's campaign here, somewhere. It would be nice to have a nice thread shedding some light on this RINO.

Just a few things I've seen in this forum and on wikipedia:

  • Perry is a former democrat and was chairman for Al Gore's primary campaign in Texas, 1988.

  • He created the "Texas Enterprise Fund" in '03. In '04 he authorized the organization to grant $20 million to Countrywide Financial.

  • In 2006 he supported increasing the state franchise tax.

  • Pushed for (initiated?) the Trans-Texas Corridor (aka "NAFTA Superhighway") which would require extensive use of eminent domain. When then-state-senator (and former Cintra lobbyist) Dan Shelly, struck a deal with Spanish owned company Cintra, Perry opposed releasing any details to the public. (Shelly is now back at his old lobbying job with Cintra:eek:)

  • Issued an executive order mandating the HPV vaccination Gardasil for Texas school girls (later undone). Gardasil maker Merk had donated to Perry's campaign and hired his former chief of Staff Mike Toomey as a lobbyist.

could Perry withstand the white house opposition research? You know the Dems will descend upon Texas with a fine tooth comb on every single thing perry's ever done while in office. They'll explore his contacts, business dealings, the whole nine yards. They'll ask for his emails and dig dirt on all his friends/associates.

Some men do have the tools to defend against assaults upon their character.

All GOP potential candidates are hereby ordered to block Ron Paul.

If you have to stand in front of a camera interviewing him and scream about a flying elephant, DO IT!

You have received your orders.

On a side note why did I get demoted to just member?

he looks and sounds just like george w. bush. the people will see this and they don't want another bush.

Not sure if he'd help or hurt us. Though that one poll came out that showed Paul got more of the vote in Texas then him, but who knows if the rest of America feels different about him. I hope if he runs Rudy runs, since if he will definitely hurt Romney.

Still, unless Perry announces really soon, he has little chance at the nomination, IMO. He'll be months behind the other campaigns when it comes to building up a grassroots organization.

This is not a whisper. He is in. 100% no doubts, deal with it and know he will be super well financed by Karl Rove and the Bushes. These same people are backing Pawlenty, this is a double down bet, to see which one gains traction. The other will then be dumped.

Mine too. lol.

I can't imagine him getting traction though.

I do agree with Rachel that he is in. His actions of late have been all to obvious.

I was involved with county politics at the GOP for a while when work allowed (not anymore), and even though the people there voted for him, none of them liked him at all. And these were the die hards.
