Oh my, not again.
How many times do I have to come into these threads educating you guys on your complete misrepresentation of the 2012 date as it relates to the Mayan calender?
Here it goes again
The Mayans believed that there have been several Earths. We are currently on the 4th version of Earth. The most recent Earth ended on the Mayan long count calender date of 12.19.19.17.19. The next time a 12.19.19.17.19 rolls around will be December 20, 2012. Basically, at the end of the 12th B'ak'tun, the Gods destroyed the 3rd Earth, and created the 4th earth the following day.
There really is no significance to the ending of the 12'th B'ak'tun. The Mayans placed no importance on this date. It would be like saying, "Last time around God destroyed the Earth on a Thursday, so I bet hes going to do the same thing this time around". It was only later, about the 1960's, when American pop culture made up this myth.
The only reason you would even think the date had any shred of significance would be if you believed in Kukulkán and Tepeu, the Mayan gods that created the Earth. So unless you buy into Mayan polytheism, I dont see why you would even believe in the underlying premise.
The Mayans themselves placed no importance on this date.
