hi all-

i'm looking to start dabbling in precious metals, and i was hoping that you more knowledgeable folks here might be able to give me some advice.

in a few various online places, i've been seeing the 1oz. canadian maple leafs going for 17.20-17.50 ea. these seem to be a little cheaper than some other one-ouncers out there, and i was wondering if it would be wise to grab a few of these. if not, what would some better alternatives be?

again, i'm pretty new to this stuff and i'm just seeking some friendly advice/knowledge. thanks a lot!

US 90% and 40% silver coins are a great bargain because their metal content is universally recognized and you can get them at or below spot almost anywhere.

Since spot silver is over $17 now, if you can buy silver Maples at that price from a reliable seller, I would load up on as many as they'll sell you.

Another option is old US coins with 90% silver. I would avoid the 40% stuff. I would also avoid silver rounds or bars -- I think they are more subject to counterfeiting than official government-minted coinage, and they could be more difficult to sell when the time comes.
