What are the chances that these hitpieces released by TNR will be mentioned in tomorrows debate? I mean Paul better give a concrete answer against these new newsletters or we are toast.

It did not go on for 10 years. The racist articles were limited to 1990/91. And the homophobic articles (also not written by Paul) were standard fare FOR ALL REPUBLICANS in that era. Ever heard Huckabee talk about AIDS patients or Gays, or previous candidates like Pat Robertson (a winner in IOWA)? Not nice stuff - but considered acceptable at that time. And the anti-Israel stuff is relatively mild, and never criticizes jews even a little bit. Pro-Israel lobby, yes, but even Carter has done that in recent years.

The vast majority of the articles were standard libeterian fare from the era - a little to conspiratorial for my tastes, but reasonable. Interestingly, during that time, Paul had authored books with statements against media racism (like his famous attack against use of racist stereotypes in pop culture, such as in wrestling (which made blacks often act like animals)).

That's true...

Le sigh

I just feel these are the final nails in the coffin unless a miracle occurs.

The campaign should have fought this smear claw, tooth and nail.

I don't think I will ever understand why they were not prepared for this smear or why they chose not to name the writer of the newsletter. They had to have known this was going to come up- how could they not have a press release prepared in advance to counter these allegation? I have seen posters on these forums do a far far better job in defending Paul's character then the actual campaign. That is just so sad and speaks to HQ's incompetents.

Seriously, not only have they mismanaged all the money we have sent them but they fail at countering these grotesque hitpieces. They need to fight back harder and not just give out small statements.

To the panic-stricken:

They are handling this perfectly. Reading these comments makes me wonder how many campaigns many of you have followed. Dirt like this comes out all the time, people. When you whip yourself into a perpetual frenzy of apologizing, explaining, and pointing the finger that is what sinks you.

Ron Paul is a statesmen and he will not lower himself into the mud to deal with bomb-throwing hacks trying to derail the greatest defender of liberty in our time. If this bothers you, then drop your support. But you serve nobody's interests with talk of spamming the campaign, Gary North, Lew Rockwell, or anybody else demanding answers. If your dedication to the freedom movement is so weak that you can be discouraged from voting for Paul because of a few inappropriate comments 15 years ago, then I assure you, folks, you haven't the stomach for what is coming. If he is successful, it only gets worse from here.

You didn't sign up for a walk in the park. You signed up to challenge the very power structure in this country and you are dreaming if you think they are going to smile affectionately as a contrarian statesment and defender of liberty gathers support to overthrow the warmongering bureacrats currently leading this country down the path of destruction.

I have to say that this is very well stated. I especially love the last part. I made it bold to catch the eyes of those who might skim over it.

"The racist articles were limited to 1990/91"

Can someone please confirm when the article about "MLK being a gay pedofile" was written???????????????????????

please i need to know this because i want to know when it compares to when he voted for MLK day in 83

They are grasping at straws to find anything on Ron Paul. It just shows how desperate they are, to look for anything with Ron Paul's name on it, instantly it must be fact, he must have said it because it has his name on it.

They are trying to smear not just him but also his message, they need to discredit him before Americans actually do listen, stand up, and finally say I am not going to take it any more. The establishment is scared that his Constitutional message will get out to the people before they can get the shackles on our rights. Smearing him with these newsletters are just to make Ron Paul look like the "racists nut" they need him to be so they can discredit his message.

Ron Paul has already denounced these papers as not his, his words are good enough for me. But for the people who wish to discredit him, this is great, because they have no proof they are his or they are not, they just have a copy of some type written pages that happen to have his name on the bottom. This is all they need, I have already seen a spot on these newsletters on TV tonight saying Ron Paul has a lot of explaining to do. It should be the burden of proof on who brought these newsletters forward to prove their authenticity, it should not fall on Ron Paul to prove they are not his.

You stated what I'm fearing...I see them using this against him and not bringing up any of the other candidates racial comments...I hope the campaign has prepared him and I hope his answer is honest. Ron Paul NEEDS to name the people that are responsible...that is the only way to clear himself...but I think he is to principled and will take the blame.

With the proper response the campaign could have put this fire out before the debate...
Man Paul's campaign staff is terrible, why he has not fired any of them is just beyond me. Am I the only one who finds it odd that the free market candidate runs his campaign like a social welfare program?

No need to put quotations around the word racist. The newsletters are racist. They contradict core libertarian principles of individualism and non-collectivism. The newsletters are not written in Ron Paul's language though.

He gave the proper response on his website.

Any video of him talking about racist magazines would have only blown this thing WIDE OPEN. The networks would have only had to air his denial to plant the seed of doubt in a million minds.

As stated in other threads, they are handling this perfectly.

it will NOT come up in the debate tomorrow. Every other candidate has more to hide than Ron.

LOL

1+

And I know many people will disagree with me but I've always been bothered by the fact he has members of his family working on his campaign as paid staff -- this smacks of nepotism to me. I don't like it and I've said that from the first.

Yeah, paying his daughter around $30k (or so) over a 6 year span to do clerical work.

Oh woe is me. Atleast you've stopped claiming facts that you actually don't have and it only took about an hour working with you. Baby steps..

YOU ARE A TROLL, LEAVE THIS BOARD! THE POWER OF OBAMA COMPELS YOU!

Man this place has been overcome with operatives from other campaigns... I can't believe the things being said. They come off as what is supposed to be intelligent discussions but they are keeping all the hit pieces on the front page of the forums. If you truly support Ron Paul wise up ladies and gentlemen...
